There’s A Gourmet Escape On WA’s Biggest Island And You Need To Know About It

Dirk Hartog Island is about 850km north of Perth and is, quite simply, one of the most stunning places you’ll ever visit. But if the beauty of this isolated little isle isn’t enough to convince you to get up and go, maybe the Gourmet Island Escape will be.

Russel Blaikie of Must Winebar will be headlining the first ever Gourmet Island Escape on Dirk Hartog Island, which is running as part of the Gascoyne Food Festival.

He’ll be cooking up an epic paella using only the freshest local seafood—think Shark Bay prawns, scallops and blue manna crab—on Wednesday 9 August, followed by a long table lunch at the Eco Lodge on Thursday 10 August, where you'll likely catch a glimpse of baby humpback whales frolicking in the bay.

Usually you’d need your own boat to get to the island and your own 4WD to get around, but there will be a charter boat taking people to and from Denham on the day of the long table lunch, as well as 4WD tours (which Blaikie will be tagging along on!) so you can explore without the hassle. If you want to stay the night, the Eco Lodge is offering accommodation packages from 6—12 August. Yas!

There will also be helicopter joy rides around the island—an absolute must do if you’re lucky enough to get there!

And if you can't manage to get to this one, don't miss the Margaret River Gourmet Escape in November!
