Your Week In Epic Workouts

You all know variety is the spice of life, but it turns out it’s also the key to fitness. How often have you mastered your routine jog, felt as fit as a fiddle, then tried a spin class and felt like you were about to drop dead? A few weeks ago I was feeling pretty smug about how fit I was after a 10km run, then in one 30-minute session, my PT had me working so dang hard that I nearly passed out. Smugness be gone—I wasn’t fit at all!

Monday

You know the saying—never miss a Monday? Exercising on a Monday sets you up for success all week long and makes you feel holier than thou. Start the week with a bang and and hit the cycle class or jump on the X-Dream bikes at Surge Fitness for a ride through the (virtual) country side. Your quads will be on fire and you’ll burn off all your sins from the weekend!

Tuesday

Time for something slightly lower intensity that will tone your bod to perfection. Barre combines the principles of Ballet and Pilates and will have you trim, taught and terrific in no time. If you’ve got some spare time, follow this up with a yoga class to really get your stretch on.

Wednesday

Time to get your fight-club on with a boxing class. Boxing works your entire body and is great for building strength and cardio fitness. Read—fat burning, core stability and lean muscle building, and you all know that lean muscle equals fat burning even while you’re sitting on your toosh later that night. Boxing is also hump day stress relief at its very best. And if you can't make it to a class jump on the Nexercys boxing machine and go nuts!

Thursday

Cross training sounds scary I know, but I promise it’s not so bad once you get started. A Focus Functional Cross Training class challenges you to move weight in all directions for a full 360 degrees of loaded movement. With the throwdown functional zone and the sprint and sled tracks you’ll be working muscles you didn’t even know existed.

If you don't think cross training is for you, give KONGA a try. A cardio dance class, with a bit of boxing to some of the best beats around. You’ll work up a sweat but this one is also great for your mental health, because it’s impossible to feel bad about life when you’re dancing to Sean Paul!

Friday

I think you deserve a day off by now, right? How about a massage then? Fieldwork Health are located within Surge Fitness Kings Square and are offering physiotherapy and remedial massages to keep your bod in tip top shape. How good!

Saturday And Sunday

The weekends are for relaxing so for the next two days you can say goodbye to the gym and head outdoors for a stroll or a swim or a leisurely bike ride. Find something you enjoy, go and explore something new and then get ready to do it all over again!
