It’s true. It pains us to say the words, but there is just one month left of summer. Insert “sad face” here.
And while we’re not about to go into hibernation anytime soon, with the balmy weather likely to linger for a few more months yet, you should not waste a moment squeezing as much goodness out of those final hours of our fave season.
We’re helping you do just that, with this rad list of things to do on the Sunshine Coast in February.
Flickerfest | Saturday, February 4
Who doesn’t love a good short film? With super short attention spans, it makes watching a movie fun instead of a “but I want to go to sleep” chore. For 18 bucks, you’ll be treated to the best Australian short films from this year’s Flickerfest as part of The Best of Australian Shorts tour. So grab a film buff buddy, stuff your mouth with popcorn, and make like you’re a critiquing boss.
A Set Adrift | Saturday, February 11
How does an afternoon sailing on a yacht and sipping craft beer sound? That’s what we thought! Then, go and add live music from local alt-folk-rock trio TOWN and you’ve got this month’s A Set Adrift. Setting sail from Mooloolaba, this two-hour cruise is an intimate way to support the local music industry whilst taking in the stunning place we get to call home—from the water, no less. Bad news is, tickets have just sold out. The good news? You’ll be faster next time.
Noosa Summer Swim | Saturday and Sunday, February 11-12
Ocean Swims are the new fun run, haven’t you heard? Whether you’re a hard-core fitness fanatic or just want to squeeze in a touch of exercise between your beachside naps and afternoon cocktails, there’s probs an ocean swim for you. Which is kinda convenient considering the Noosa Summer Swim is here. If you’re all about the social scene, the social swim has your name all over it (duh!), but if you’re a seasoned pro, you’ll want to check out the 3km swim.
Free Movie Night At Solbar | Tuesday, February 21
We’re already predicting that come the end of February we’re going to be broke, such is summer life. So when we heard that Solbar was hosting a free, we repeat, FREE movie night, well, there’s some things that are just way too good to keep to ourselves. Jot down Feb 21 in the diary, because Empire Records will be going on the big screen as the band room turns into a giant lounge room at this Maroochydore fave. You can even BYO beanbag. Count us in!
Flame Hill Annual Grape Stomp | Saturday, February 25
Wine aficionados and foodies better shake it on up to Montville come the end of the month or risk missing out on one of the quirkiest things to do on the Sunshine Coast. Flame Hill Vineyard’s annual grape stomp—yep, you actually, like ACTUALLY, stomp grapes—is happening. With live entertainment, lots of incredible wine for the tasting, lunch and a chance to stomp to your sole’s content. Get it? Sole, not soul. Lucky we’re not comedians, huh?
Italian Long Lunch | Sunday, February 26
We might not have the Tuscan countryside or the age-old crumbling buildings, but the Coast can still do a real good Italian Long Lunch. Well, at least Noosa Waterfront Restaurant can. For 60 bucks you’ll sip Prosecco, nibble on an antipasti share platter, savour housemade pasta, and that’s just the beginning—there’s still a main, sides and dessert to go. Excuse us, while we go and salivate.
Trivia, Tequila and Taco Tuesdays at Bordertown | Every Tuesday
Let’s be real. We’d be quite happy to enjoy just one of these things any day of the week. But bring trivia, tequila, and tacos (only $5) together in one epic night and BAM—we’re feeling like we just hit the jackpot without even knowing we’d entered. Do yourself a favour and get down to Bordertown, any Tuesday this month between 7pm and 10pm, for a whole lotta fun and you might even win the grand prize of a $100 bar tab to shout your mates. Bookings are recommended so get dialling and snag your table for next week now.
