In the Moreton Bay Region, south of the Sunshine Coast, Mt Nebo and Samford are ideally situated for a day trip spent exploring the D’Aguilar Range. This quirky town, and the national park and mountain range beyond, will give you a maximum dose of country vibes and idyllic nature time.

So line up the perfect playlist, pack yourself a picnic and hit the road, here’s everything you need to do on a road trip to Samford, Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious.

First Stop: Samford Village

If you’ve headed up the mountain nice and early, you’re no doubt in need of sustenance, so your first stop is at Little Tree Bake And Brew House for a takeaway bacon and egg roll and coffee to enjoy in the park over the road. While you’re there, stock up on baked goods to snack on later—you’ll need it after all the walking. Once you’ve eaten, Harry Potter fans can stop in at the Store of Requirement to get themselves a magical, well, anything, which is worth the trip all on its own. You could even line up this reading of the books by Daniel Radcliffe and other celebs for the car ride up there.

Second Stop: Cedar Creek

From Samford Village, head north along Mount Samson Road, until you reach Cedar Creek Road. This route follows a meandering creek for a while, and while there’s a few places to stop and enjoy the scenery, our favourite spot is Cedar Creek Park, at almost the very end of the road. You can stop and enjoy a second breakfast of those baked goods you bought earlier, or just dip your toes in the refreshing creek.

Third Stop: Mount Glorious

You'll now have to head back to Samford the way you came to turn onto Mount Glorious Road—which has the upside of being able to stop in the village again for another coffee along the way. After winding up the scenic road, head for the Maiala Picnic Area, where you’ll find several gorgeous walks to stretch your legs on. The nice and easy 2km Rainforest Circuit will have you strolling through a fern-filled valley of stunning scenery—don’t forget to stop and just breathe it all in for a while. If you’ve got kilometres to spare, you can keep heading north west to Wivenhoe Lookout for a distant view of Wivenhoe Dam.

Fourth Stop: Mount Nebo

On your back way down the mountain, make sure you stop at Westridge Outlook view point for a supremely Instagrammable vista of the hills below. Then, if you didn’t think to pack yourself a picnic lunch, you can drop into the Cafe In The Mountains in Mount Nebo for a takeaway burrito bowl or pile of fish and chips. Walk off your food baby with a stroll along the Pitta Circuit boardwalk, which takes in strangler figs and rainforest scenes on a quick 1km loop.
