15 Awesome Things To Do In Sydney This April

By Jessica Best - 30 Mar 2017

Apart from getting sick from eating your weight in chocolate, and dodging all the April 1st pranks your mates have set up for you (screw you ALL in advance), April is looking mighty fine.

There’s no doubt we’ve all well and truly settled into the (not-so-new) New Year and we think that calls for a celebration. That means open-air operas, beer and BBQ festivals, the races (giddy up), film festivals and of course, the Sydney Comedy Festival!

Here are 15 awesome things you need to do in Sydney this April.

Handa Opera Carmen

No biggie, this is only THE biggest cultural event of the year. And FYI nothing really beats devouring some Spanish fare at sunset, swigging down a glass of something sparkling and sitting back to enjoy the vibrant production (cue all the greatest voices and dancers in the world) of Bizet’s Carmen in an open-air opera house. Nothing. Get your tickets here.

When: Until Saturday 23rd of April, Tuesday to Sunday, 7:30pm
Where: Opera House, Circular Quay
Cost: $89-$299 per person

Chippendale Art Auction Dinner

If you’re on the lookout for a seriously suave night out, look no further. Yep, we’re talking one schmick gala, on a rooftop terrace, with smooth jazz and all of the aperitivi you can handle (our hearts did a happy dance too). And of course, you’ll bid in-between bites to support the Chippendale Creative Precinct. Did we also mention there’s a five-course feast (created by the one and only award-winning chef Lino Sauro). Well, there is. And it’s going to be divine. Get your tickets here.

When: Tuesday 4th of April, 6pm-10:30pm

Get your bellies down to The Gong where some of Australia’s finest brewers and cider makers will be pouring their best brews for all (read: you) to enjoy. Wharf Bar’s Wine Series

PSA: When the Manly Wharf Bar holds an event, you go. Especially when it means you get to soak up all the wine. Oh, and a three-course dinner which kicks off with a glass of squealing pig frosé and canapés. And if you’re into your meat, you’ll be pleased to know there’ll be cuts of porterhouse and scotch fillet steaks matched perfectly with red vinos. We think you’d better wear your stretchy pants to this one. Book your tickets here.

Where: Manly Wharf, East Esplanade

So we’re pretty damn excited (read: very) that there’s some hella awesome food to celebrate our epic betting fails, at one of the biggest sporting and social events on the calendar. Guys, it’s Sydney Carnival season, so it only makes sense that while you hit up The Championships over two incredible weekends, you also hit up the Little Sydney foodie precinct.
