Finally, Sydney is scoring a saké festival and yes, not one but two types of fried chicken will be there. Strap in guys, this one is going to be good. If you’re a regular on the booze festival scene—AKA you’re an annual ticket holder for Pinot Palooza, Game of Rhones and Gauchito Gil’s Malbec Day—then my friend, this one is for you.
A few of Sydney’s key saké players will be there, and to sweeten the deal, you’ll be showered in endless free samples. Specifically, the line up includes Nihonshu Australia, Black Market Saké, and Sakéshop for starters.
But if you think sipping your way through every single saké stall is the most exciting thing you’ll do at this festival, wait till you hear about the food menu. We’ll talk you through it—the legends from Paper Bird and Toko are coming to the party with all of their top dishes (a few of our personal faves TBH). Think shrimp brined fried chicken wings with soy and syrup, and Taiwanese pork and squid sausages from new kids, Paper Bird.
As expected, Toko will be serving up their The Ramen Club ‘Cup’ Ramen (with a vegan option too). But that’s just the beginning team. They’ll also have crispy squid with malted ponzu, Hojicha karaage chicken with whipped chicken sour cream and hot sauce, and for dessert—doughnuts with rhubarb and saké-chantilly cream. We just can’t even with this menu, and obviously our suggestion is that you come hungry and try one of errrythang.
