Sydney does many things right, but when NYE rolls around, we really know how to show off. With a fireworks display that makes the world take note, it seems a mighty shame not to score yourself a primo position to ring in 2016.
So whether you’re after unbeatable views, a place to get your groove on or a venue that puts taste first, this is the only list you’ll need to nut out the best New Year's Eve parties in Sydney this year.
Let’s give 2015 a proper send off!
NYE15 @ Taronga Centre
For those that like it wild, we think ringing in the New Year with a couple of lion catcalls in the background will have you pretty jazzed. Not only is Taronga an animal lover’s dream, but, as we all know, it’s a location that has some pretty unbeatable harbour views. If you’re after something a little fancy, the three course dinner at The View Restaurant will serve up the goods (and includes drinks), however, for those who want to party into 2016, the Speakeasy Cocktail Party should be on your radar. Tickets are sure to sell out, so book your spot soon.
NYE Above the Harbour
If there’s one drawback to New Year's Eve it has to be waking up at the crack of dawn just to score yourself a semi-decent harbourside spot for fireworks viewing. Thankfully, signing yourself up for NYE Above The Harbour will secure you and your clan exclusive front row seats on the water’s edge at the Royal Botanic Garden. Tickets also include unlimited food and beverages and access to pamper stations so you can have the most stress-free New Year's Eve ever. Get your tickets here.
NYE at Opera Bar
Having sold out every year for the past 13 years, the Opera Bar’s NYE party is perfect for those that like their fireworks up, close and personal (read into that what you will). Bringing the beach to those iconic sails with hot hot hot entertainment like Furnace & the Fundamentals setting the groove for the night, party your way into 2016 under the stars amidst palm trees with a fruity cocktail in hand.
Forget lying on the couch post-NYE in the foetal position screaming “WHY?” at the world and blast that hangover at Field Day 2016. With a whole line-up of house, hip-hop and electronica music and Disclosure headlining, start your new year on a high at this cracking music festival in The Domain. For a little extra coin you can really lose your inhibitions with a VIP pass that gains you access to the Botanic Bar and, ladies you’ll appreciate this, plenty of toilets so you don’t have to miss a beat because of your bladder. Hallelujah!
Garden Party on Clark Island
Beat the crowds this NYE and don’t you dare leave home without your ticket to this exclusive garden paradise. Away from all the ruckus of the harbour you’ll be whisked away to Clark Island where a picnic hamper and cocktail are waiting for you upon arrival. After you’ve settled in, you’ll have your choice of main and dessert before the live music kicks in in time for sun set. And the tunes will keep flowing to keep you occupied until midnight at this luxe garden party. More info here.
Fiesta on Shark Island
If Cinco De Mayo is more your speed, then salsa that booty straight on down to Shark Island’s Fiesta. Come December 31st, this little island off of Rose Bay will be transformed into a colourful feast for the eyes and the stomach with Playa Takeria serving up all the tacos and burritos you could ever want. Juggernaut DJs will kick-off the night’s dance party and while Sombreros aren’t strictly required, we think it’s the only suitable attire for such an affair.
Bradley's Head Mast Precinct
Seeing 2015 off, parked in a lawn chair at Bradleys Head with the little grommets in tow is the more low-key alternative to NYE celebrations. A totally alcohol and glass free zone, you won’t have to worry about where you step at this harbourside spot. Live entertainment will be on show throughout the evening with plenty of food outlets to keep you fed well and proper for the whole day. Make the day hassle-free by pre-ordering a gourmet hamper available for pick up on the night.
NYE15 Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel
Picking the Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel as your NYE host will have you counting down the months past amidst flamingos, fireworks and flamin’ hot performers like Fear of Dawn. Sydney’s answer to the Hamptons, their Beach Club is a fantastic place to kick back with sunset drinks and cruisy vibes. Or, if you’d rather enter 2016 with a full belly, snapping up a VIP Dinner ticket will treat you to a three course feast before you step out onto the exclusive balcony for premium firework viewing.
New Year's Eve at The Greens: A Bohemian Circus
Drop it all and run away to the circus at The Greens for this night of all nights. With plenty of entertainment including circus performers and a jumping castle for the kiddies, the wait till 1 minute to midnight will fly by faster than a flying monkey. Each ticket will score yourself a glass of Veuve or a Corona on arrival, a three course seafood grazing table and a late night barbie. For those wishing to catch the late show, there’ll also be a silent disco to booty-shake your way into 2016.
NYE 2016 at Sake Double Bay
For a night that’s equal parts delicious as it is stylish, you can’t go wrong with spending your NYE at the newly opened Sake Double Bay. While a little further away from the main action, we think the delectable contemporary Japanese cuisine is a spectacle on its own that comes with the added bonus of avoiding the horrendous post-NYE traffic. And with an extensive cocktail and sake list to plough through, all your NYE essentials are spoken for.
The Island NYE 2015
Leave Nigel no friends at home this year and click attending to the ultra exclusive NYE bash at The Island this year. A floating beach oasis, there’s a fully licensed bar on board as well as VIP banquettes to keep punters cheerful all day. And with the number of party-passengers limited, you don’t have to spend your night rubbing up against strangers (unless of course that’s what you were after). Only available to club members, remember to sign up so you can purchase your tickets.
Park Hyatt New Year's Eve
With phenomenal, uninterrupted harbour views and a menu that’ll give the fireworks a run for their money, NYE at the Park Hyatt is a celebration fit for royalty. Wake up to 2016 well rested by treating yourself to the early three course dinner before ending the evening with a light stroll along the boardwalk in time for the early fireworks display. Or ,watch that five tick over to a six with the four course celebration dinner that’ll have you licking your lips straight into 2016. More info here.
Lost Paradise 2015
If your year was so good that only one day of celebrating just won’t cut it, get in your RV and head up the coast to Lost Paradise 2015. For three days of camping fantasy, there’s an eclectic line-up featuring Angus & Julia Stone and Hot Dub Time Machine as well as a whole suite of glamping options for those who think they’re 3m x 3m won’t do. On the food end of things, there’s a whole series of Lost Feats to book a seat at and don’t forget to pack your fancy dress finest because who wants to ring in NYE looking ordinary? The weirder the better we say!
Before the countdown starts why not spend your NYE arvo at one of these rooftop bars?
