Sydney’s dessert king, Messina, is turning their hand to savoury this weekend, combining their love of the classic Australian meat pie, with the same innovative twist that they’re known for. It’s been dubbed MESSINA EATS: Pie Country and there will be four savoury options to choose from, so we’ll break them down for you.
First up, there’s the It’s Nacho Pie (beef chilli con carne with corn chips, guacamole, sour cream and jalapenos), then the Baby Don’t Herd Me (braised lamb shoulder pie with mushy peas, mashed potato & gravy). Next, you’ll move on to the Spicey Gurkha (slow cooked Nepalese chicken curry pie with mushy peas and mashed potato) and Mushroom 3.14 (mushrooms braised in porcini béchamel with mushy peas and mashed potato). Leave room for sides of mac ‘n’ cheese and yes, we are expecting you to try the lot as well as dessert—it’s what we would do, anyway.
It wouldn’t be Messina without a couple of sweet treats to round out the feast, and you’ll be happy to hear that there will be apple pies with soft serve and a Messina Milk, salted caramel and coffee flavoured (in case you were wondering).
Pies, cheese, more pies and dessert sounds like a pretty solid Saturday arvo plan to us.
