The Best Things To Do In Sydney This Weekend

best things to do in sydney

Spring has finally sprung and we couldn’t be happier. Spring to us at The Urban List means spontaneous day sessions, lazy afternoons with more sun and finally ditching that heavy jacket for shorts and dresses. However, after a few months of winter such things can seem foreign and scary, so we’ve done the hard yards and found events that will get you out of your cave this weekend and ready to embrace everything a brand spanking new season means, complete with a few sneaky drinks and one big fashion overhaul for good measure.

These are the best things to do in Sydney this weekend.

Festival Of The Senses

Festival of the Senses kicks off this month, and to say we’re excited it a bit of an understatement. This month you can look forward to things like the Sweethearts Rooftop cinema — with classic flicks and magnificent Mexican eats, no less — and live music Sundays at The Winery each Sunday in their laneway garden. Plus, each weekend in September the legends at Gazebo will be putting on a bloody Mary brunch bar. There’s SO much more instore, so make sure check out all the details here.

When: Kicks off September 2
Where: Various locations, check out our wrap up for all the details here

Groove On The Green

What better way to wind up the working week than with free live music (and food) on a rooftop with the springtime sun on your back? Usually we would say this sounds too good to be true, however Greenwood Plaza are answering our prayers, with Groove On the Green, which is (you guessed it) a chilled Thursday and Friday session throughout September with soothing R&B and Jazz beats taking over their rooftop, sprinkled with never ending tastings from Iku Wholefoods, Top Juice, Swiss Deli and THR1VE. Greenwood Plaza, we applaud you and also kind of love you.
What: Groove on the Green
Where: The rooftop of Greenwood Plaza
When: Thursday 8th September and Friday 9th September 11am-2pm
Cost: a free event!

The Big Fashion Sale

It’s back, and it’s bigger and better than ever. The Big Fashion Sale is bringing Sydneysiders BIG savings of up to 80% from local and international brands. And all we’re saying is that it’s a new season, which means we all need a little revamp in the wardrobe department, especially when the sale is this big. Just to name a few brands, we don’t want to tease you too much, but the Big Fashion Sale will be offering Stella McCartney, Christopher Kane, Kenzo, Benah and so, so much more. We’re just going to say it, this is the only sample sale you need to attend this season so get in there guys and gals!

What: The Big Fashion Sale Sydney
Where: Paddington Town Hall
When: September 8th - 11th, 9am - 6pm most days

Smooth Festival of Chocolate

Control your excitement and prepare for one serious sugar high because, with over 80 exhibitors showcasing their decadent desserts, this weekend will be worth every uncounted calorie. This chocoholic convention will see stalls hosted by our much loved faves such as Black Star Pastry and My Donut Box, and as if we needed any more reasons to attend, Bilpin Cider will have their very own Cider Garden Bar to help quench our thirst and wash down all that sweetness. Now we’re certain you don’t need any more convincing, so we’ll see you there for the sweetest event of the year!

What: Smooth Festival of Chocolate
Where: The Rocks
When: Saturday 10th September 10am-8pm and Sunday 11th September 10am-6pm

Spend this Saturday afternoon at Popolo for relaxed vibes and tastings of the naturally fermented farmhouse ales & ciders from Two Metre Tall Tasmanian farmhouse brewery as well as Giorgio De Maria’s favourite low intervention wines. These delicious creations will be partnered with wood fired pizzas and pork neck skewers so we can all continue well into the evening.
