14 Awesome Things To Do This Weekend In Sydney

Guys, it’s August already, which means we’re almost out of the winter chill (yay for us!) and basically you’re going to want to hit the ground running, stat. This weekend calls for exhibitions, a chilli fest, a sustainable wardrobe pop-up, pretzel flavoured beer (#whaaaat) and the most delish food safari around the Opera House.

And you thought you’d just be Netflix and chillin’ this winter… pft, not on our watch. Here are 14 awesome things to do this weekend in Sydney.

Honour The Being

Honour the Being is Sydney Road Galleries latest exhibition. The exhibition features animal portrait paintings, by artist Jaimee Paul, which depict interactions that she has had with the animals featured in her works. The exhibition ends this weekend so get on it now.

Northies Chilli Fest

Lovers of all things spicy, this one’s for you. Northies in Cronulla is holding a month-long festival dedicated to alll things chilli. Through the month of August Northies is launching its wicked-hot specials and chilli infused drinks. Eats include angry wings, a scorching chilli burger and a chilli roulette pizza. Each dish is complemented with the ‘Death Wagon’, read: a cart stacked with 30 of the worlds hottest sauces (someone pass the milk). Not hot enough? Drinks include chilli-infused vodkas, blue chilli margaritas and traditional cocktails topped with Chilli Fairy Floss. The Sustainable Wardrobe

Get a head start on your spring wardrobe. The Sustainable Wardrobe is returning to Sydney for a two-week pop-up. Founded by stylist Aleysha Campbell the pop-up brings together eighteen of Australia’s finest ethical and sustainable fashion brands. Including Spirit Natural Clothing, Outland Denim and Empire of Bees. 
When: Wednesday 1 August to Tuesday 14th August, 10.00am to 5.00pm

Taittinger & Charcuterie at NOLA

Work day getting you down? NOLA has the perfect remedy for you. Grab your pals and share a bottle of Champagne Taittinger Cuvée Prestige. Plus you’ll get a complimentary charcuterie plate, loaded with coppa, prosciutto, soppressata and bresaola. It all sounds delish and we are keeeen.

Goose Island Beer Paddles at Fratelli Fresh Darling Harbour

Kick off your weekend with Goose Island Beer Paddles. To celebrate the International day of beer the good people at Fratelli Fresh Darling Harbour are introducing Goose Island Beer Paddles.  Mention ‘Paddle & Pizza’ when ordering to receive four Goose Island Beers (read: Goose IPA, Honkers, Halia and Midway) and either a margarita or Diavolo pizza. Pretzel Flavoured Beer at The Bavarians 

ICYMI Friday is International Beer Day and to celebrate the happiest day of the year, The Bavarians are launching pretzel-flavoured beer. Yes, you read that right, pretzel-flavoured beer. The delicious, malty lager is available in 300ml, 500ml and 1L steins. Pair it with the salted pretzel for the perfect combo.

117 Dining Truffle Menu 

Guys were entering the last month of truffle season (we’re devastated). Which means you only have a handful of weekends to get your mouths around 117 Dining truffle menu. The five-course degustation prepared by Senior sous chef Luke Fernley features five dishes with shaved, grated and infused black truffle. Think wagyu short rib with truffle potato puree and nutty black truffle: macadamia, malt and black truffle ice cream. Complete the meal with pairings of matching wines. Book here

Gin Classes at Gin Lane

School is in session. Gin School that is. Mixologist Grant Collins will take you through a 90-minute cocktail masterclass. The session includes free-flowing G&T’s, gin tasting and expertly paired cheese and charcuterie. Booking righhhht here

Winter Party at Manly Wharf Hotel

It’s time to don your cheesiest Christmas sweater, cause Manly Wharf Hotel is throwing an epic winter party. Drink warm spiced rum cocktails and Bacardi mojitos, in the snowy wonderland. Word on the street is there are prizes for the best (read: worst) dressed.

Gluten Free Expo

Gluten not your friend? This weekend the Gluten Free Expo is coming to Sydney. The expo will feature over 50 gluten-free food providers, food trucks, experts and chefs. Offering you the chance to taste and buy all the new glutard friendly foods. There will also be cooking demonstrations and an education stage where you can learn new meals to cook and hear the latest in coeliac disease management and research. Refugee Camp In My Neighbourhood 

Refugee Camp in my neighbourhood is a celebration of the efforts and resilience of people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds in the Cumberland community. Saturday 4 August serves as a festival of culture and food. There are two-hour interactive tours on offer, led by guides from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds this simulated ‘refugee journey’ explores the journey’s refugees and asylum seekers take to find a safe place to call home. Sunday  5 August

Taste of the Opera House

Eat and drink your way through the Opera House’s restaurants and bars. The tour begins with a cocktail making lesson at Opera Bar with seafood and charcuterie from Raw Bar and Meat & Cheese room. Guests then make their way to Opera Kitchen for a sushi making masterclass, followed by a leisurely lunch at Portside Sydney prepared by Executive Chef Daniel Stewart. The tour finishes with Executive Chef, Peter Gilmore’s signature crème caramel vs mille-feuille dessert at Bennelong. There is limited availability for this grand feast so get in quick and book here

Icebergs Bar X Black Pearl 

For one night and one night only, Sydney’s Icebergs Bar and Melbourne's Black Pearl are teaming up. Punters will be treated to a drinks menu prepared by the Black Pearl team curated for this event. The drinks line-up will feature ‘Best in Show’ (read:  Ciroc vodka, grapefruit, Murray river salt, Suze and spritz) and ‘Mind Your Own’ (read: Don Julio Blanco Tequila, Beeswax and Honey, Vermouth Blend and Chocolate). Streets of Barangaroo Aperitivo Hour 

Aperitivo Hour is Happy hours hipper little sister. The streets of Barangaroo will be hosting aperitivo hour throughout August, with drinks and snacks to kickstart your evening. Complimentary snacks come with the purchase of cocktails and spritz throughout the precinct, with many of Barangaroo’s retailers participating including Anason, Smoke, Belles Hot Chicken and NOLA.
