Arriving by boat or car, when you pull up to Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel you literally feel a million miles away from city life. Watsons Bay is a picturesque harbour cove, which still retains a sense of its former life as a bustling fishing village, and is just 11km from Sydney's CBD.
With panoramic views of Sydney's glistening waterways, the only reminder of work, and all other daily commitments, is the outline of the Harbour Bridge surrounded by a skyline of twinkling lights. All 32 guest rooms within the Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel, feature incredibly plush king-size beds and delicious, crisp sheets. Light-filled and airy, floor-to-ceiling windows make the most of the hotel's waterside location. And for future reference, the bathrooms are 'made' for indulging with lovely large marble bathtubs.
Since Fraser Short and Arthur Laundy took over management of the hotel, the facilities have been revamped considerably. In particular, the stunning Sunset Room, which has a New York Hamptons-style feel, offers a hearty, modern-Australian menu that will leave you extremely satisfied.
The seafood is a highlight and you cannot go past the 'overflowing' bucket of prawns with cocktail sauce?—out of this world for a starter. The cheese board is also a must, featuring Executive Chef Erik Jansson's selection of three cheeses, with crostini and orange blossom prunes (yum). For mains make sure you try the Barramundi fillet with cabbage and Parmesan salad, and the grass fed Riverina sirloin 250g, with Paris butter and mash.
There are plenty of relaxing activities you can undertake while staying in the Bay, if lazing around your large, harbour-view-dominated room is not enough. With plenty of coastal walks, paddle boarding and fishing on offer, you can even bring Erik Jansson your catch-of-day, which he will cook to your specification.
