where to eat on boxing day in sydney

Everyone knows that after the Christmas food-coma, comes the Boxing Day booze fest, obvs. And because nobody likes a holiday hangover, we all know that there is one failsafe cure. Eat more food, drink more wine. ‘Tis the season!

Christmas is over, but the festivities are not finished. Here’s your ultimate guide to what’s open in Sydney on Boxing Day.

Devon Cafe

Surry Hills

Cure that holiday hangover with a bangin’ breakfast from Devon Cafe. Yep, these are the kind of colourful eats we like to kick start our day. Sure, we may still be in a food-induced Christmas coma but that won’t stop us from ordering up the French toast with peanut butter, raspberry jelly, vanilla cream, Chantilly, peanut butter cookies and a scoop of the strawberry and maple ice cream. Where the hell was this beauty on Xmas day?!

The Hill Eatery

Let’s be honest, once you’ve stuffed your face (again) with something from The Hill’s all day breakfast menu, hitting up Bondi Beach is naturally the next best thing (it’s just so close). As for what to choose before you hit the beach?  That would be everything. Celebrate your post-Christmas feed with delicious ricotta cakes, the breakfast board featuring bacon and chorizo or a plate of avo smash. The food fest continues.

Paper Cup

In adult world, the only savour you have after Christmas Day is a damn good coffee. Or a good old-fashioned open breakfast sandwich from Paper Cup. I mean, if we’re being real— you’ll probably need both (because you had to deal with your ENTIRE fam yesterday). Hit up the smashed peas, mint, avo and soft-boiled egg on sourdough, or the stand out salmon sandwich.

Ham Cafe

Thank god these legends are open, because their burrata bruschetta with truffle infused honey and rosemary (and yes it’s even more delicious than it sounds) might just be the one thing that’ll put that holiday hangover to rest.

Ruby’s Diner

You might want something to counteract all the pudding you consumed (and we’re not even judging) on Christmas Day. We’re talking a seriously tasty breakfast salad full of avo, kale, feta and poached eggs. Pretty sure that ticks all the boxes for health. Thanks Ruby.

Intercontinental Sydney

Two words. Seafood buffet. Yep, The InterContinental’s Cafe Opera is plating up some serious ocean fare this boxing day meaning you get to prolong your Christmas stuffing shindig for lunch and dinner (like come on… does it ever really stop?). Eat all the seafood. Have no regrets. You can book right here.

Sheraton On The Park

So, The Sheraton is plating up an epic Boxing Day feast for lunch and dinner plus a high tea buffet. And really, there’s nothing stopping you from going to all three. You can book right here.

Bondi Hardware

Because we never get sick of good food and cocktails at Bondi Hardware, no matter how much we’ve eaten. Also the crispy chicken slider with bacon and maple butter… why would we deprive ourselves of that? Or the smoked pork belly with fennel and carrot… yeah, we’ll take the lot.

Coogee Pavilion

We could never have trust issues with The Pav. As usual, these guys are open from sunrise until… well, almost the next sunrise. It's the perfect place to have your boozy Boxing Day brunch. Because there's only one way to spend the day after Christmas, and that's sipping on cocktails (lots of them) and eating pizza with kickass beach views.

Ivy Pool Club

Big things are happening at the Ivy Pool Club (like seriously big things). Not only are these guys throwing an awesome pool party to help us recover from the Christmas that was, but PNAU, Sydney duo Set Mo and Bang Gang DJs, all delivering a summer DJ set. And you know what that means. Party vibes until midnight.

Hotel Bondi

Nothing sounds better than ocean views and beer come Boxing Day, so sit yourself down at Hotel Bondi and watch the world go by. It’ll be business as usual, so expect a whole lot of laid-back vibes, chilled tunes and plenty of food (just in case you’re still hungry post-Christmas).

The Royal Paddington

Kick back and take in one of the best views in town at The Royal Paddington. There will be DJs spinning chilled beats, delicious food and $12 cocktails all day long. What more could you possibly need!?

Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel

Watsons Bay

The team at Watsons Bay sure do know how to throw a party so don’t miss the Boxing Day Yacht Club at Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel. Kicking off with a bunch in the Sunset Room from 11am, you’ll be able to watch the Sydney to Hobart race while you dance from midday to sunset to smooth sounds from some of the city’s best DJs.

Now that you've sorted Boxing Day, here's where you should spend NYE.
