Keeping up with the best events, new openings, pop ups, and good things to eat in Sydney is no mean feat (and we would know!). To make your life that little bit easier, and because we love a good list, we’ve teamed up with Peroni to bring you What’s Trending: A one-stop guide to everything worth checking out in your city this month, so you won’t miss a thing.
ICYMI it’s the last month of summer. This means you have 28 days to make the most of the sunshine (and heat). To keep you and your crew #sorted all month long we’ve rounded up the ten hottest things happening in Sydney this February.
#1. Bowl-A-Rama Returns To Bondi
Sk8er bois (and girls) unite because Bondi’s Bowl-A-Rama is back for 2017 and it’s set to be bigger and better than ever. Heavyweights Pedro Barros, Cory Juneau and Tony Hawk will be among the contenders so bag yourself a front row seat and settle in for two massive days of shredding.
#2. There’s A Festival On Top Of A Mountain
Get out of the city and take a trip north to Mountain Sounds. The festival, based at Mount Penang (on the Central Coast), is big on sustainability, celebrating music, art and all things culture. With headliners like RUFUS, Hermitude and the DMA’s, you’re pretty much guaranteed a good time, despite the whole camping thing, just don’t forget your dancing shoes.
#3. Predict The Oscars At Sunset Cinema
Nothing says summer like balmy nights on the North Sydney oval watching the latest Oscar-worthy flick (think Jackie, Lion and La La Land), or a guilty pleasure like Fifty Shades Darker (judge us all you want). There will be beanbags, food (of course), and the absolute best part, a licensed bar pouring wine and brews late until dark. See you there.
#4. Ride The Waves At Manly’s Inflatable Boat Race
Start repairing the hole on your flamingo inflatable people, the Manly Inflatable Boat Race is only a few weeks away. Come 10:30am on February 26th there’s no way we’re playing nice, you have been warned. Dress up in the most creative costume you can think of (be it a crab, a mermaid or Thor), and do what you gotta do to get the crown.
#5. The Twilight Food Festival Is Back
Have your stretchy pants at the ready and forget that New Year’s diet, the Twilight Food Festival is back and there’s no way you’re missing out. Happening in North Sydney’s Civic Park every Friday night, there will be endless amounts of food and plenty of live music to ease you into the weekend. Hot tip: BYO picnic rug.
#6. Get A Dose Of The Outdoors
Slip, slop and slap your way through February with our neat list of 50 awesome outdoor adventures you need to try (at least once) in Sydney. From white water rafting and scuba diving; to glamping and actual camping, there’s something for everyone so we don’t want to hear your excuses. Go on, get outdoorsy.
#7. Jump On The Sugar Wagon At Sweet Addiction
Get back on the sugar wagon and cure your chocolate cravings at Sweet Addiction at the Botanical Gardens. The exhibition, featuring the southern hemisphere’s largest green wall arranged into an artwork representing the Mayan God of Chocolate, was made for chocoholics and sweet tooth folk alike. Take a journey through chocolate plantations, ancient history, and a Lindt chocolate mill, to learn all there is to know about chocolate—a lot, obvs.
#8. Carb-load At Lucio Pizzeria
January is over and while we were all super keen on #cleaneating our way through 2017, we think it’s only fair to reward ourselves for a month’s hard work at Lucio Pizzeria. With an aperitivo cocktail bar, two pizza ovens and a mozzarella bar, it would be rude (and near impossible) to resist.
#9. Get Cultured At Mardi Gras
If you’re looking to party get cultured, you need to get amongst all things Mardi Gras. From February 17th, there will be pool parties, art exhibitions, live music, comedy shows and even a film festival, all in celebration of equality and Australia's LGBTQI culture. Expect glitz, glamour and hundreds and thousands of sequins.
#10. Australian Open Of Surfing
Surf’s up at Manly for the Australian Open of Surfing so grab your bikinis (or budgie smugglers) and lay by the waterside marvelling at some of the world’s best. For an entire week there will be delicious food, bulk bevs and live music, so even if you have zero interest in water sports you can grab your squad and make a day of it.
