Here at The Urban List, we're all about teamwork, team bonding and taking one for the team and all that fun workplace jargon. It's no surprise that our favourite team activity, however, involves food. For that reason, from our hungry crew to yours, from some of Sydney's best restaurants, we've rounded-up a list of crowd-pleasers for your next team lunch. Win!
Customs House Bar | CBD
If you're in the mood for some hearty comfort food in a charming setting, then head on over to Customs House Bar at Macquarie Place. We're talking juicy burgers and parmesan truffle fries, people. On a nice day, grab one of the communal tables in their beer garden where you'll be surrounded by hanging plants, hedges and white-picket fences. That being said, it wouldn't be a beer garden without over twenty different beer options for you to choose from for a pint or two before heading back into the office.
Searock Grill | Circular Quay
You'd be hard-pressed to find a better backdrop for your team lunch than at Searock Grill. Take in Sydney Harbour in all its glory while enjoying mouth-watering seafood prepared by award-winning chefs. For a large group, we say go with the Indulgence Platter for the table. Oysters, mussels, prawns, lobster, and king crab will surely get the party started.
Shakespeare Hotel | Surry Hills
Come hither and eat thy heart out. Known affectionately as The Shakey, this neighbourhood watering hole is home to some of Sydney's best pub grub. With a private dining room upstairs and the kitchen open all day, spend a long lunch at The Shakey with the team and rest assured that stomachs will be fed and thirsts will be quenched. Their famous $12.50 meals will make sure of it.
Popolo | Rushcutters Bay
Authentic southern Italian dishes are done justice at Popolo, where pizzas, pastas, meats and seafood feature simple preparations in order to let the ingredients shine. A true Italian dining experience has a way of making you feel at home and Popolo is no different. Whether you're lunching with co-workers or with friends, at Popolo, they make it all feel like family.
Gallon | Pyrmont
Impress the team with a bit of historical knowledge on how Pyrmont was purchased back in 1799 by John Macarthur for a gallon of rum. Things have changed since, and Gallon is a prime representation of the trendy and diverse scene that is Pyrmont today. Whether you're after something light or something hearty, Gallon's lunch menu covers all bases with fresh salads, scrumptious rolls and flavourful pizzas. The team won't be disappointed.
Janus Italian | Westfield Sydney
Gather the team for some modern Italian and head up to the top floor in Sydney Westfield for a family-style lunch at Janus Italian. There is no shortage of delicious pizzas and pastas to share but don't forget to order the 12-hour lamb salad. If you don't, you'd be missing out on one of the best things on the menu. Whoever made the call to eat here gets the last bite.
Four In Hand | Paddington
For a meal that will spark conversation among the team, Four In Hand has the right menu. This elegant bistro nestled in the backstreets of Paddington employs a nose-to-tail food philosophy that's as eclectic as it is exciting. If you're rolling with a party of 10 or more, one of the most unique and impressive things you can do is order a whole suckling pig and then see who's willing to try some of the more adventurous parts.
Redoak Boutique Beer Café | CBD
Look no further than Redoak Boutique Beer Café if you're interested in a team lunch with a bit of day drinking. Beer brewing is serious business here and they have the most awards in Australia to prove it. Order the perfect pairing for your meal from a wide selection of locally-brewed craft beers that will have you returning again and again to try them all.
Cala Luna | North Sydney
Savour Italian recipes that have been passed down through generations of the Rossetti family at Cala Luna in North Sydney. There's an a la carte menu but for larger groups they have a special group menu that's perfect for team lunches. Even if your office isn't in North Sydney, Cala Luna is only a short walk from the North Sydney station making it easy for the team to get to.
Gowings Bar & Grill | CBD
Located inside the artsy QT hotel, the atmosphere at Gowings Bar & Grill is thick with glamour and attractive staff. It's the kind of energy that can liven up a team lunch. But don't let the superficial fool you into thinking that the food and drinks can't hold their own. With perfectly-done rib eyes and hot beignets, they can, and they do.
Orto Trading Co. | Surry Hills
Menus change with the seasons at Orto Trading Co. where they pride themselves in using fresh, quality produce. This is especially apparent when you glance around the space to find the wheelbarrows, recycled soda bottles and potted herbs that make up the restaurant's vegetable garden theme. If you're lunching with a group of 8 or more, have a look into their two-course group lunch menu. At the moment it features a melt-in-your-mouth wagyu sirloin steak.
