The Newtown dumpling scene got a whole lot more exciting with the addition of Luyu & Yum Yum in early 2015.
This trendy eatery is no dingy dumpling joint, as you can see when you step off King Street into the sparse layout with high ceilings and plenty of decorative bamboo. The dumplings are creative, fresh and full of flavor that you’ve never come across in dumpling form before. The Mr Luyu 'Starburst' dumplings are delicious morsels of chicken and piping hot homemade soup in slighly fruity, steaming hot dumplings, and they're everything you want in a meal.
No doubt you've come across the hedgehog dumplings on Instagram of late, these crispy bad boys are filled with Chinese mushrooms, carrot, and coriander, and they're almost too cute to eat.
For mains, you can expect traditional Chinese dishes with a modern twist. Think crispy-skinned roasted duck with plum sauce, chicken with beetroot, serrano chilli, and honey coated walnuts. If you want to keep it clean, go for the steamed ocean perch with shallot and ginger.
While there's plenty of food to keep you happy, be sure to get stuck into the bar as well. There is a list chock-full of delicious cocktails ready to be enjoyed. Namely the Ka-Go-Shi-Ma, with sake, Luyu punch vodka, strawberry, lychee and lime.
So get your behind down to this Newtown dumpling restaurant quick smart and get your dumpling on!
