The Public, Cammeray

The verdict

This Mediterranean-style bar and restaurant in Sydney has quickly become a Cammeray favourite, giving a breath of life and fun to the up-and-coming north side. The interiors have a slick, almost Scandinavian vibe while the menu reflects both coastal European snacks in the form of taramasalata or chargrilled octopus, and classic Australian pub grub like towering burgers and the crunchiest of schnitties.

Above all, we're most excited about the Greek street food on offer. The head chef brings Cyrpriot touches to the menu for authentic, hearty, home-style dishes. The 6 hour slow cooked lamb shoulder in particular is something to write home about. It comes to your table like an old-school parcel, and as you unwrap it, the aromas escape in a puff of steam. Served alongside Papou's potatoes, you'll soon feel like you've joined the family.

To inject a little weekend vibe into your working week, The Public also offers an ideal function space tucked up the back. Escape the office for a classy pub meal with your workmates. The sharing part of the menu means you'll be able to sample a little of everything, while the "not sharing" menu will keep any greedy guts on your team happy too. 

The Public is also the kind of Sydney bar you can take a date on Saturday night (cue cocktails), and then come back for a long, lazy brunch the next morning to debrief with your pals (cue wine).
