Whether you need boutique artisan gift ideas, cute vintage finds or just some gourmet festive treats to get you in the spirit, chances are you’ll find a market that fits the bill perfectly.

We’ve rounded up a list that includes everywhere from a winery and a brewery to a street takeover and a village decked out in Christmas splendour. Plus, there's ample opportunities to catch Saint Nick himself for a photo op, of course.

First off the rank for December, the Christmas Edition of Campbelltown’s Moonlight MarketsWith more than 100 traders out with their wares, it’s the perfect chance to get ahead of the Christmas shopping. Pick up something with genuine craftsmanship, whether you’re after fashion, toys or homewares. The market also features food trucks, including a little showcase of the Flavours of Campbelltown Food Trail, for your summer’s eve feasting, as well as live entertainment.

This Family-and-dog-friendly market out amongst the vines is the perfect way to get into the spirit and get away from it all for the day. Head to McLaren Vale for the Collective Christmas Market to check out over 40 local stalls, featuring everything from clothing and skincare to local produce, then feast from food trucks and enjoy a little vino in the countryside (the cellar door will be open for visitors).

The best way to while away a Sunday in December. Williamstown Christmas Fair promises an afternoon of market stalls, food and drinks, raffles, a petting zoo and a bouncy castle, as well as live entertainment and a special appearance by you know who (ho ho ho!).

The beloved Adelady Christmas Village returns for all lovers of shopping local! They’ve wrangled over 100 South Australian businesses, and even have a section for “young entrepreneurs”. You can pick up everything from candles to cacti, with enough art and fashion on display to suit even the fussiest of gift-getters. Plus, Santa’s stopping by for the kids, and grownups can enjoy bevs from brands like 23rd Street Distillery, Beresford Wine and Vale Brewing.

As part of the Lights of Lobethal Festival, nightly indoor markets run from December 13 until Christmas Eve from 6pm til late. You can expect local arts and crafts, delicious festive treats and all the seasonal decor to immerse you in the holiday spirit. Of course, you’ll want to take a tour of the community light displays and see how the locals celebrate with their own Yule wonderland.

This is the big one. For three days, Hahndorf will pull out all the stops, transforming the main street into a Christmas Village worthy of any snowy German Christmas market. With over 150 stallholders selling their wares from 3pm til late, a lights display all along the main street and spreading into the village, DJs, gift wrapping and roving entertainment, it’s set to be a real destination celebration. Grab the glühwein and get ready to make magical Christmas memories.
