Every Saturday and Sunday at 1pm and 2pm, Riverside Restaurant hosts one of Adelaide’s most popular and beautifully curated high teas — a long‑loved tradition reimagined with seasonal produce and a touch of hotel‑luxe polish.

The revolving menu, which shifts with the time of year, features gourmet sandwiches, hot pastries, freshly baked scones and a line‑up of sweets that look almost too pretty to eat. Every single morsel is crafted in‑house daily by the hotel’s culinary team, so it always feels fresh, thoughtful and a little bit special.

There are two packages on offer, and both include bubbles. Children are welcome, if you dare include them, with a menu tailored to their tummy sizes and tastes. Spots always fill fast.

Every Saturday, the Mayfair Hotel offers an hour of pure, butter-soft indulgence. From 1pm, The Mayflower and The Den roll out a luxe high tea stacked with handcrafted sweet things, savoury bites and all the elegance you’d expect from one of Adelaide’s grandest hotels. Yep, that means quality bubbles too.

Go classic with the Sparkling High Tea or level up to the Champagne High Tea and swap that sparkle for a pour of MUMM Grand Cordon.

Both options come with Wedgwood tea or freshly brewed espresso, and the whole experience feels like stepping into a little pocket of old‑world glamour. Upcoming dates are limited.

If you like your high tea with a side of country charm — or somewhere to stop on a winery weekend —  Tealicious Cakes is the Fleurieu favourite worth the drive. Their signature high tea is crafted fresh in‑house each day, showcasing local produce and the kind of homemade sweetness that feels like a warm hug in tiered‑tray form.

The Traditional High Tea delivers all the classics: ribbon sandwiches, quiche, a mini croissant, house‑made desserts and, of course, scones with jam and cream. You’ll also get bottomless pink lemonade and boutique teas on crisp white linen and vintage china.

Little foodies aren’t forgotten. The Children’s High Tea (10 and under) mirrors the grown-up experience with petite portions, sweet treats and their choice of tea, hot chocolate or a milkshake. This is high tea in the clouds. Well, perched above the city at least. Koomo and Luna10 at Crowne Plaza Adelaide serve a curated selection of sweet and savoury treats. Think scones, pastries, finger sandwiches and seasonal bites — all crafted fresh daily and inspired by South Australia’s best produce.

You can elevate the whole affair with a glass of sparkling or champagne, or keep things classic with a premium tea from Brackendale Tea Co. The list includes award‑winning blends like OMGoodness Darjeeling and Cream Earl Grey.

Still thinking of bringing the kids? You’ll be happy to know they have their own petite high tea available. Sessions are available Thursday to Sunday from midday, and the views alone are worth the booking. Groups of eight or more need to book 24 hours ahead, and outside cakes or alcohol aren’t permitted.

What about high tea on the water? That’s now a thoroughly enjoyable thing thanks to Adelaide’s beloved Popeye. You can climb aboard for a 90‑minute cruise along the River Torrens, tiered treats included. 

You’ll be welcomed with a South Australian sparkling, beer or soft drink before settling in for a spread of finger sandwiches, scones, pastries and petit fours, all paired with bottomless tea or coffee from T Bar’s Australiana collection.

Departing from Elder Park Landing, this floating high tea is as much about the views as the food. It’s important to note that dietary allergies can’t be accommodated, and infants travel free but won’t be allocated a seat or setting. It’s a place for tea enthusiasts, the spiritually curious, and a dedicated spot for LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse communities. As they say, it’s anything but your “stuffy old great aunt’s parlour” and their high tea may well be Adelaide’s most affordable. They pride themselves on it.

Every session includes three teas from their hand-blended selection, plus an array of tasty sweet and savoury food. Children welcome, as is advance notice of dietary requirements. The sitting is for 2 hours and planned to be a relaxed, slow-paced affair.
