If there’s one Auckland café that’s dear to our hearts (pun intended), it’s Dear Jervois. The Herne Bay fave has cemented itself in the brunch scene for its prettier-than-your-average dishes.
Not only pretty, they’re also next-level delicious. We’re talking pancake stacks drizzled with Nutella chocolate sauce, comforting prawn dumpling soup and their Auckland-famous matcha waffles. Just thinking of the charming café makes our tummies rumble—it’s that good.
So, when we heard a rumour Dear Jervois was swinging its doors open for dinner, we could hardly contain our excitement. Dear Jervois for breakfast, lunch AND dinner? It’s a dream come true!
Now open on both Friday and Saturday nights, Dear Jervois’ exclusive dinner menu stars some of your daytime faves alongside some mouth-watering newcomers. And, staying true to their values, every taste bud is catered for with an abundance of vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free delights.
Known and loved for their good, comforting Kiwi fare, the new menu also has international twists. Korean bibimbap, Chinese bao and Mexican tacos all make mouth-watering appearances—and the prawn dim sum is unmissable.
Start with entrees such as pork belly bao, burrata and vegan-friendly tacos packed with refried kidney beans, kumara and grilled eggplant. The mains are equally divine with turmeric parsnip risotto, lamb cutlets and crispy snapper paired with cauliflower puree and asparagus. Personally, we can’t go past their signature cheeseburger stacked with bacon oh-so crispy onion rings.
Save room for dessert because Dear Jervois know how to treat your sweet tooth. Spoon into banoffee or lemon meringue pie or check out the decadent raspberry brownie—there are even s’mores for the kids. Wash it all down with a wine, craft beer or cocktail and soak in the evening vibes—looks like you’ve got a new dinner fave!
Rest assured, the deliciousness is still in full force during the day. Start your day with Dear Jervois’ acai bowl, creamy mushrooms or zucchini fritter. And, let’s be honest, you can’t call yourself an Aucklander until you’ve demolished their Insta-famous waffles. The gluten-free number is served with bacon and caramelised banana, while the matcha waffles come with vegan ‘nice cream’.
For something lunchier, you’ll find spiced mince on toast, crumbed fish balls (these are ah-mazing) and a flavoursome poke bowl with salmon, avo and seaweed. The family-friendly café also caters to your little ones with dedicated kids’ menus during lunch and dinner.
Ohh, Dear Jervois. It’s evident why you’re one of our brunch—and now dinner—faves. Eat your way through the menu morning, noon and night to discover the charming gem for yourself.
