For some of the best Japanese fare in Auckland, look no further than Haru No Yume (aka the home of an EPIC all-you-can-eat buffet). The cat’s out of the bag on this incredible Freemans Bay restaurant and you need to visit—asap.
Because, let’s face it—when it comes to delicious eats, Japan certainly knows its stuff. They’re the genius behind the likes of sashimi, gyoza and erry’ones fave karaage chicken—get in my belly!
And, at Haru No Yume you’ll find just that. Walk into the modern restaurant and you’ll be greeted with a friendly smile. The generous space is decked out with dark wooden furnishings, exposed concrete walls and pops of Japanese décor. Paper lanterns and umbrellas hang from above and bottles of sake sit proudly on display.
The magic happens at night when Haru No Yume’s buffet comes to life. For $49 precious dollars, foodies can devour ALL the Japanese goodies their heart desires. Rest assured, this buffet is about quantity AND quality.
Start with appetisers such as salted edamame and moreish lotus chips before digging into a large platter of sashimi. You’ll devour countless slices of salmon, tuna and whatever else the fisherman brought in that day—yep, freshness is guaranteed!
Adjust your belt buckle because things are just getting started. Load your plate with tempura prawns, sushi and—let’s be honest—it wouldn’t be Japanese without karaage chicken. At Haru No Yume you can eat as much as you like—served with Kewpie mayo, of course!
However, the star of the buffet is the traditional shabu-shabu hot pot. Adding an interactive element to dinner, pick and choose your veges before adding to your very own cooking pot. The result? A comforting—and delicious—broth perfect for chilly winter nights.
Finish off with dessert (yes, this is also included) and wash down with a sake from their extensive drinks menu. While we take no responsibility for your inevitable food baby, this is one unforgettable dinner!
Visit over lunch and things are equally tasty. Choose between the likes of spicy tuna and avo salad, tempura udon noodles or deep-fried soft shell crab. We can’t go past the pot of gyoza dumplings stuffed with pork and chilli onion and served in a flavoursome dashi soy sauce—mm-mmm!
For a bit of everything, their bento boxes feature cute (and tasty!) compartments of salad, sushi, tempura alongside your choice of protein. Dine in or, for a quick lunch to go, there are 15-odd types of sushi to choose from.
Yep, this truly is Japanese food at this finest. Visit Haru No Yume to discover the hype for yourself—we’ll meet you at the buffet.
