Travelling should be a thrill, not a hassle, right? With cover across overseas medical expenses, cancellations and lost or stolen goods, ahm travel insurance is here to help. Get planning and protect your Barcelona trip here.

The best bars in Barcelona are anything but predictable, and that’s exactly why we love them. From hidden speakeasies behind fridge doors to natural wine bars that feel like your coolest friend’s living room, this city knows how to pour a drink with personality.

Whether you’re chasing world-ranked cocktails, low-intervention wines or perfectly executed Martinis, Barcelona has a bar for every kind of night. Here, the Urban List team cuts through the noise to bring you the bars actually worth your time. Consider this your hit list for sundowners, late nights and everything in between.

Paradiso

Carrer de Rera Palau, 4, Ciutat Vella

Hidden behind a fridge door inside a pastrami bar in the trendy El Born neighbourhood, Paradiso leans all the way into the neo-speakeasy vibe. It has landed on The World's 50 Best Bars, even taking the top spot in 2022, so you know you're in for something special.

Helmed by renowned bartender Giacomo Giannotti, the cocktails are full-blown productions (think smoke, fire and unexpected textures), crafted with ingredients sourced from the nearby Santa Caterina market. And the pastrami bar is not just for show; it also provides a tight edit of sandwiches, bagels and pickles.

Dry Martini

Carrer d'Aribau, 162, 166, Eixample

Martini lovers, start at Dry Martini on your Barcelona bar crawl. As the name suggests, the classic gin cocktail is the headline act, and they’re treated with the respect they deserve. Bartenders prepare each one on a raised pedestal in the middle of the bar, while an electronic counter ticks off the number of Martinis made since the bar opened in 1978 (it’s already past the million mark). Inside, the 'martinería' is all polished wood, low leather seating and timeless style. We could easily imagine 007 ordering his signature drink at the polished counter.

Glug

Carrer de Viladomat, 289, Carrer de París

This cherry-red corner spot slings low-intervention drops with a rotating lineup of 300+ bottles and wine on tap, spanning whites, reds, rosé, orange and sparkling. Glug has picked up a Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand, but the atmosphere is more homely than fussy, with bar seating and a jukebox where you can take charge of the soundtrack.

Although Glug is a wine bar first and foremost, the bar snacks are also excellent, inspired by Catalan cuisine with Italian twists. Try the likes of celery with smoked stracciatella and hazelnut, or bread with anchovies and goat butter.

Masa Vins

Carrer de Pallars, 154, Poblenou

Poblenou’s coolest new pour is like a local house party, open late most nights of the week. Billing itself as 'your living room but with a fridge full of natural wine,' Masa Vins is a tiny, tile-lined space where vinyl spins and tables are scarce.

The drinks list is one of the longest in the city for low-intervention drops, with bottles constantly being opened and shared. Food-wise, expect playful, snacky plates paired perfectly with wine. Think kimchi toasties, crunchy crudités and fermented dips.

SIPS

Carrer de Muntaner, 108, Eixample

If you go crazy for cocktails, SIPS is a must-visit. The World's 50 Best Bars crowned this inventive cocktail bar number one in 2023, and the queue outside proves it. The drinks push classic cocktail technique into new territory, borrowing from kitchen and pastry methods to create something different.

The creative presentation keeps things interesting: Have you ever drunk Spanish brandy out of a pair of glass hands or licked a red fruit reduction from a small mirror? Or you can opt for a classic with a twist, such as the Tommy's margarita with strawberry and yellow aji. There’s also proper bar food (hello, pâté en croûte), so you can settle in and make a night of it.

Contracorrent Bar

Carrer de Ribes, 35, local 14, Eixample

Tucked away from the tourist churn near Arc de Triomf, this is where you go to drink like a local. Contracorrent (Spanish for ‘against the current’) leans hard into natural wine culture, with co-owner and sommelier Anna Pla curating a list of bottles from small, local producers. Inside is tiny—just a bar, a few rustic tables and a chalkboard menu—but the sunny terrace is often heaving with day-drinkers. Expect seasonal tapas and a neighbourhood feel, as this hideaway is a local fave.

Bobby Gin

Carrer de Francisco Giner, 47, Gràcia

For the best G&T in town, look no further than Bobby Gin. This Gràcia bar has built a cult following around their gin and tonics, and it's easy to see why: with over 80 gins and multiple tonic options behind the counter, they’re not messing around.

The bartenders know their stuff, so if you’re overwhelmed by choice, just hand it over and let them guide you. Unwind in the cocktail lounge with perfectly balanced, beautifully garnished serves that elevate the humble gin and tonic into a luxury tipple.

Suru Bar

Carrer de Casanova, 134, Eixample

Blink and you’ll miss it; Suru Bar is the kind of no-signage speakeasy you walk past three times before finding, with only a red lightbulb to distinguish it. Inside, the interiors blend concrete surfaces with red banquet seating, shelves stacked with wine bottles and glossy red tiles.

Head sommelier Sergi champions small, local producers, so there's a constantly rotating lineup of hard-to-find Catalan wines. Pair your pick with punchy Catalan-Japanese bites such as yakitori loaded with chicken hearts, or go omakase and let the kitchen take over.

Boadas Coctelería

Carrer dels Tallers, 1, Ciutat Vella

Just off the bustling street of La Rambla, this tiny Art Deco bar is a masterclass in keeping things classic. Open since 1933, Boadas Coctelería is one of the city’s most storied cocktail institutions, with wood panelling, suited bartenders and walls lined with old photos. There’s no foam, smoke or gimmicks here, and that’s exactly the point. Order a Martini, a G&T or the house Boadas and watch it made properly in one of Barcelona's best bars.
