For those who didn't grow up with pointe shoes and pirouettes, the world of ballet, while wildly impressive, can feel a little hard to crack into. Luckily, Queensland Ballet’s 2025 Triple Bill is your new way in.

Not all ballets are three-hour epics; a triple bill flips the script—serving up three shorter works (we’re talking 20 to 40 minutes each) that ditch tradition in favour of fresh choreography, music and storylines. In short: it’s the perfect intro for ballet newbies to get a taste of what's on offer.

From June to July, Queensland Ballet’s 2025 Triple Bill will showcase acclaimed Australian choreographers Natalie Weir, Jack Lister and Greg Horsman, with live music from Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, Camerata.

Previously performed in Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia, Weir’s 4Seasons is an intimate work that uses poetic movement to respond to music. It sees four couples at different stages in their lives together, unpacking the seasons of a long term relationship: the newness and eternal youth of Spring, stormy shades of Summer, brittleness and longing of Autumn and the peace and acceptance of Winter. Known for her highly physical partner work and emotive insight into human nature, this choreography is no exception to her style.

With an impressive track record across Aussie and international stages, Lister’s latest work Gemini is a world premiere—created in collaboration with composer Louis Frere-Harvey and lighting designer Alexander Berlage. This bold work defies typical expectations of ballet, opening a new dialogue between the earthly and the divine, inviting audiences into an unexpected, wholly reimagined world.

Rounding things out is A Rhapsody in Motion by Greg Horsman—a crowd favourite since its debut in 2022. This one pulls back the curtain on a dancer’s world, celebrating the grind, the precision and the artistry that goes into every step. Broken up into three movements, the first explores a dancer's relationship with the ballet barre, the second highlights their capacity for emotional expression and the third celebrates the harmony of technique and artistry, celebrating the joy shared by dancers and audiences. It's a rare and beautiful insight into the world of a performer.

Whether you're new to ballet or a lifelong devotee, shake up your weekend with the chance to see three fresh, unexpected performances in one unmissable showcase this winter. Tickets are already available for purchase here
