Nobby’s Iconic BSKT Cafe Is Relocating To The Oxley Precinct This Summer
BSKT has been a cornerstone of the Nobby Beach lifestyle for years—since 2013 to be exact—where you’ll find runners, walks, cyclists and dogs overflowing out of the beachside cafe every morning, often before the sun has even crept over the ocean.
Now, the much-loved Gold Coast icon is entering a new chapter, with BSKT relocating to The Oxley 1823 precinct and doors set to open very soon.
Owned by Sonia Giggins and Dennis Bastos since 2019, BSKT’s journey has always been deeply rooted in community, healthy living and the quintessential Gold Coast beachside lifestyle.
While news of the Nobby Beach site’s residential redevelopment initially came as a shock, the pair quickly shifted focus to what comes next. And it turns out, the next chapter is a seriously good one. The bustling Oxley precinct is perched 200 metres away on the same Lavarck Road stretch, making the move an evolution rather than a goodbye.
“I’m a strong believer that the right opportunity would present itself and we are extremely happy to be moving to The Oxley,” says Sonia.
With many loyal customers already frequenting both precincts, the move keeps the BSKT community close. The cafe will launch at The Oxley with its existing, much-loved menu, with seasonal evolutions and a few surprises planned down the track.
Leading the kitchen is a familiar face: Rodrigo Artoni, BSKT’s very first head chef, who’s returning to guide the next phase and continue delivering the nourishing fare locals know and love. Oakberry Nobby Beach will also be relocating to The Oxley as well, for all your acai bowl needs.
As for how it feels? “All of the above [sad, happy, excited, nervous], but we have an incredible team behind us and we will make it happen fast and as smooth as possible,” Sonia says.
More exciting elements are continuing to open across The Oxley, cementing it as one of the Gold Coast’s most dynamic new dining precincts.
Peter Gloftis—the original force behind cult favourites The Lamb Shop and No Name Lane—is opening Mr Spiros, a specialty yiros bar set to be a serious crowd-pleaser. Everything will be authentically made in-house, from hand-cut, triple-cooked chips to the traditional spit-roasted lamb and chicken, and pillowy pita bread. If Gloftis’ track record is anything to go by, this one’s shaping up to be something special. We’ll have an opening date very soon.
Additionally, sandwiches have seriously leveled up at The Oxley with the recent opening of Giuseppe’s Deli serving seriously stacked build-your-own focaccia sandwiches with sliced-to-serve meats, cheeses, antipasto, salads and more. All of the good stuff.
We’ll have more details on exact opening dates shortly.
All we can say is….it’s very soon. Summer is looking good.
