Dating back to the 1800s, this tiny home cabin in South East Queensland has been transformed—all while maintaining the original character-filled timber it came with. The result is a beautifully rustic space—a place with personality and yet it comes with little luxuries like a queen bed, waterfall shower, air-con and a mini bar too.

If you’re feeling active, there’s a tennis court nearby, although we reckon pouring a wine and padding out to your very own verandah could be the way to go. You can take a load off while gazing at the animals grazing in the paddocks nearby. A mere five minutes outside of Maleny, Bonithon Mountain View Cabin offers spectacular views of the Glasshouse Mountains, and even the twinkling Brisbane skyline in the distance. You can take them in from from your private deck, with a campfire where you can toast up marshmallows. 

Inside you’ll find a plush queen-size bed and environmentally friendly bathroom awaiting you, complete with a spread of sourdough, croissants and breakfast goodies awaiting you. You can even stroll up the drive to do a little shopping at the properties farm gate stall, which is stocked up with honey, jams, gourmet salts and more. 

Flinders Lakes Unyoked Remy

Are you thinking about going into real-life ‘do not disturb’ mode? Pack light and switch off at this secluded cabin in Flinders Lakes, where you can get totally off-grid in a minimalist but comfy cabin. One of Unyoked’s many properties around South East Queensland, Remy has everything you need for a getaway, like a hot shower for post hikes, aircon for when the sun is striking hot, and even a gas stove and bar fridge so you can bring an esky loaded with supplies along.

Maleny The Bower

Just ten minutes’ drive from Maleny, The Bower is a beautiful rustic rainforest retreat. Nestled between the trees, the pavilion is one of three in the area, spaced out around the crystal clear pool. The trees provide plenty of privacy, so you can relax undisturbed on your own private deck, or sit outside by the fire.

Despite its size, the house is roomy and modern, and acts as a sanctuary to submerge yourself in the natural world around you. Be sure to pay a visit to Maleny Dairies while you’re there, for the best darn yoghurt in town.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Glasshouse Mountains, this tiny house is the perfect base to explore all the Sunshine Coast has to offer. Located an easy hour away from Brisbane in Wongawallan, the property overlooks a valley offering stunning mountain views. Pumpenbil Cob Cabin

Confession time. Cob Cabin is just over the South East Queensland border in NSW but it’s so adorbs that we just had to include it on the list. This hand-crafted tiny home is set on a small farm and features earthen cob walls, recycled timber, antique Indian doors and—importantly—the best stone outdoor bath. Crack open the bubbles, head out there and prepare to relax while drinking in the panoramic views of Mt Warning. Later, you can fire up the barbecue or whip up a snack in the gorgeously rustic kitchen.  

Your Airbnb hosts are aiming towards self-sufficiency, which means there’s plenty of animals to see: think milking goats, two Jersey cows, ducks, chooks and geese. There’s also a fruit orchard and veggie garden on site (tours are available on request). With 12-acres of farm around you, you’ll feel a world away from urban life, but if you fancy a poke around town, you’ll find you’re only a ten-minute drive from historic Tyalgum and bustling Byron is about 90 minutes away.
