A new English-style pub is now open in Surfers Paradise, bringing a mix of classic British fare and live music to the heart of the Gold Coast.
The Fig ’n’ Fox occupies the corner of Orchid and Elkhorn Avenues (a site that previously housed BOBs Brewery) and marks a new project from Artesian Hospitality, the team behind Cali Beach Club, Surfers Pavilion, TAMA, The Tax Office and more.
The venue has undergone a full-scale redevelopment across two levels to operate from day through late night, with indoor and outdoor dining, a games area featuring pool tables and electronic darts, and a large basement live music space.
The design nods to traditional English pub architecture, with timber finishes, booth seating, and a central bar crafted to create a welcoming environment for locals and visitors alike.
“At its core, this is a proper British pub, built on warmth, familiarity, great food and cold beers,” says Artesian Founder Matthew Keegan. “It’s somewhere you can drop in for a pint after work, settle in for a Sunday roast, or spend an evening singing and dancing with friends.”
Food plays a key role in the pub’s offering, with a menu of British classics including bangers and mash, beef and Guinness pies, fish and chips, and Yorkshire puddings.
Chef Richard Harris, formerly of the Rockpool Group and originally from the UK, is leading the menu development with a focus on authenticity while also incorporating some Australian favourites, like a ‘proper’ chicken parmi and quality steaks. Ex-pats will love the runny Scotch eggs, homemade bangers and mash, and flaky pies, while the Sunday roasts and daily specials make Fig 'n' Fox a spot worth visiting on the regular.
Just don't forget to pop down to Timmy's Tea Room: the underground dive bar with live music, pool, darts and drinks 'til late.
