When we think of authentic Italian on the Gold Coast, there are certainly some top contenders, but typically one name comes to mind immediately. Gemelli Italian.

The Gemelli empire—which consists of two Gemelli Italian locations, Gemellini and Roy’s by Gemelli—is about to get even sweeter with the highly anticipated opening of Gelato Gemelli. Owners, the Carney brothers Alec, James, and Paul, are bringing their signature flair for Italian authenticity to gelato, with the opening of Gelato Gemelli in Mermaid Beach’s The Oxley 1823 precinct.

This isn’t just a new venture—it’s a natural evolution of the Gemelli ethos, one that taps into their deep respect for Italian tradition while catering to the Gold Coast’s casual beachside lifestyle.

Gelato is certainly having its moment in the sun, but Gelato Gemelli is set to stand apart. Think: authentic Sicilian granita, dairy-free gelato, refreshing sorbetto, and your classic milk-based gelato—all crafted using time-honoured Italian methods and high-quality ingredients.

While details are still under wraps, the gelateria will offer around 24 flavors, including a mix of classic Italian favorites and creative modern twists. A standout offering will be their Sicilian granita, made exclusively with mineral water, sugar, and seasonal fruit, with flavours like watermelon, peach, and fig destined to be crowd-pleasers.

And of course, it wouldn’t be a Gemelli establishment without their iconic gelato e brioche—a Sicilian specialty where scoops of gelato or granita are nestled in a handmade brioche bun. Yes, it’s even better than it sounds.

The Carney brothers are excited to bring their latest concept to The Oxley precinct.

"We've been in Nobbys now for nearly 9 years now with Gemellini. So we have a great knowledge of the area and have seen it transform over the years into what it is now. The Oxley is an exciting spot with the other great operators opening up, so will bring even more life to the Nobbys precinct."
