If you’ve a penchant for top-notch Japanese food—and seriously, who doesn’t— then you absolutely must add Kiyomi to your Gold Coast dining bucket list. A refined masterpiece within The Star’s culinary crown, this is fine-dining that oozes style.
Tucked discreetly away on the mezzanine level, the izakaya is dimly lit, made moodier by the candlelight, dark furnishings and warm wood feature walls. As you step inside, good luck tearing your eyes away from the far end of the room where a vibrantly abstract and backlit art installation throws a subtle pink and purple glow across tables at the rear. It’s a winning combination that is only outshone by the food.
Executive Chef Chase Kojima, who makes regular appearances on the Gold Coast when not at his acclaimed Sokyo restaurant at The Star Sydney, heads up Kiyomi’s culinary team, together with Chef de Cuisine, Yonge Kim. With an adventurous menu including scampi with foie gras, hiramasa kingfish, binchotan chicken and melt-in-your-mouth sashimi platters, all dishes are prepared to look like an edible work of art. Don’t know where to start? We recommend passing the reigns over to the experts and splashing out on a nine or 11-course degustation—it’s the stuff foodie dreams are made of.
