Perched at the end of a fairy-lit laneway just off Griffith Street, La Stradina feels like stumbling upon a hidden European wine bar you’d swear belonged somewhere in Rome, Paris or Barcelona. Coolangatta’s newest gastronomic resident is pint-sized but brimming with atmosphere—an intimate, moody little haunt made for lingering over delicious food, impeccable wine, and brilliant company, too.
Inside, candlelit tables glow against deep red tiles and teal-splashed walls, while white lace-trimmed valances frame the windows and a turntable hums softly in the background. Outside, the magic continues with tables lining the laneway beneath twinkling fairy lights—arguably one of the Gold Coast’s most charming spots to settle in for the evening.
The menu leans delightfully European, with a lineup of delectable small plates perfect for grazing. Think bluefin tuna and caviar perched atop crispy rice cakes, or indulgent 12-hour slow-cooked beef cheek croquettes with chimichurri. The antipasti board—stacked with beautiful cured meats, cheeses and pickles—feels like a one-way ticket across the continent.
For something heartier, the housemade rigatoni with stracciatella is a standout, while the Wagyu sirloin served with truffle chips and red wine jus brings serious steak-night energy. Everything pairs beautifully with La Stradina’s impressive wine list and carefully curated cocktails.
The beauty of La Stradina is that you can shape your night however you please—share a bottle of wine and European nibbles with friends, settle in for a steak and chips date night, dive into a deliciously fresh seafood spread or order a little bit of everything. Just don’t skip dessert. With homemade tiramisu, passionfruit crème brûlée and ricotta-and-pistachio filled cannoli on the menu, restraint was never really an option.
Friendly service and an effortlessly inviting vibe make La Stradina the kind of place you wander into for a quick glass and end up staying all night. Take a stroll down the laneway and you’ll find a little slice of Europe waiting.
