Luna’s Deli is the closest any deli has been to a ray of sunshine before, and it’s luring folks from all over the Gold Coast down south in pursuit of a little vitamin D (for deli, obviously). Coolangatta’s latest foodie haven swung open its doors at the end of June and has been spoiling locals and beyond with some of the best pastries, focaccia, coffee and gelato around ever since.

Expect lemon-curd-yellow walls and splashes of leafy greenery, tables bathed in golden morning light, and a breezy bench seat looking straight across Marine Parade to the sparkling sands of Coolangatta Beach. It’s the kind of spot where time slows, and you almost forget you’re not in a sun-drenched corner of the Mediterranean.

The ethos here? Freshly made, slow-fermented everything. Every loaf and pastry takes three days to perfect, a process that delivers deep flavour and easier digestion. Everything is crafted from scratch using top-tier, mostly local ingredients—except, of course, for the pastries, which are unapologetically stuffed with proper French butter, because some rules can’t be broken.

From golden loaves of bread and buttery, flaky croissants, to pillowy-soft focaccia and perfectly creamy, authentic gelato (with rotating seasonal flavours), Luna’s is an edible love letter to European tradition. And yes, you’ll also find vegan and gluten-free options, so no one misses out. At the helm are chefs Yazmin Maestre and Loïc Trouiller, whose resumes read like a culinary dream—think Le Cordon Bleu credentials and Michelin-starred experience.

Among the duo’s many goals is bringing a slice of Europe’s afternoon coffee culture to the Gold Coast. Doors swing open shortly after sunrise and stay that way through the late afternoon, so whether you’re popping in for an early-morning pastry fix, a decadent focaccia lunch, or a sweet (but not too sweet) gelato break after a swim, Luna’s Deli delivers the goods and then some.

Need an excuse to linger longer? Watch this space—baking classes, pizza nights and more delicious surprises are on the horizon. Until then, consider this your official invitation to Coolangatta’s chicest new deli.
