Monsieur Chow
Gold Coast stalwart Ally Chow, led by Leisha and Trent Scarr, has left an indelible mark on Mermaid Beach—nay, the entire Gold Coast—dining scene over the past six years. Their legacy provides the foundation for a fresh chapter; the elevated new direction of Ally Chow, now known as Monsieur Chow.
Mermaid Beach local Medi Lababi is taking the reins at Monsieur Chow, ensuring that the venue stays true to its roots while adding a new layer of refinement and creativity. He’s committed to maintaining the same exceptional hospitality that Ally Chow was known for, while offering a fresh take on the experience.
At Monsieur Chow, French sophistication meets South-East Asian flavours in a unique fusion dining experience unlike anything the Gold Coast has seen before. Medi understands the value of what has made Ally Chow so beloved—its iconic dishes, devoted team, and vibrant atmosphere. As the venue transitions into this new era, all of these cherished elements will remain, even as Monsieur Chow introduces a refined twist, with the official relaunch set for late November.
What awaits, you ask? Much of the iconic menu will remain, but reimagined with French flavours and techniques, offering bold twists on classic dishes. While much of the menu is still under wraps, we’ve been told that the Vietnamese-inspired beef tartare will be unlike anything we’ve tasted before.
Medi's vision goes beyond great food. With a French-Moroccan background and a wealth of travel experiences, he’s bringing a bold fusion concept that he believes the Gold Coast has been waiting for. But to him, it’s about much more than just cuisine.
“I’m not interested in just creating really great food. Great food, great music, great service and more is part of the experience. I want people to ultimately love every element of Monsieur Chow,” he says.
While we can’t reveal too much, come November, the alleyway space will see an elegant upgrade, setting the stage for late-night transitions into a speakeasy-style venue with intimate entertainment and even a hint of old-school cinema charm.
But what makes Monsieur Chow truly special? It’s a place that honors the remarkable roots of Ally Chow while embracing the evolution into something fresh and sophisticated. It’s a venue with deep respect for its past, and people at its heart.
Monsieur Chow is slated to open late November. We’ll have more details shortly.
