The Verdict

If there’s one thing Gold Coasters are obsessed with, it’s gelato. And if there’s one thing we need, it’s an authentic Italian gelateria, serving up beachside scoops of deliciousness.

Ottimo Gelato is a true celebration of gelato—we’re talking sweet, cold, authentic goodness which needs to be served in a dripping double scoop and immediately licked up. This charming Coolangatta gelateria is the handiwork of the talented husband and wife duo behind the iconic My Gelato in Kirra, so you know it’s gonna be good. Although it’s still the new kid on the block, Ottimo has firmly established itself as one of the best spots to grab a scoop on the Coast, with its unique flavour combinations and authentic, local vibes.

Italian for ‘excellent’, Ottimo is certainly living up to its name with its drool-worthy range of thirty flavours. Staying true to its Italian roots, everything Ottimo scoops up is lovingly made with fresh, natural ingredients and we’re drooling over it. If the regular lines out the door aren’t proof enough that Ottimo has nailed the art of gelato, lick your way through the most popular flavours—think Salted Caramel and Nutella, Mandarin Custard with Pistachio and Almond Caramel and Passionfruit Sorbet.

Not only does this Cooly gem serve up deliciously authentic Italian gelato, but they also specialise in a delectable range of pastries and caffeinated goodness. Their specialty Julius Meinl beans make for a smooth yet strong brew (just the way we like it) and are perfect paired with a sweet treat. Inspired by traditional Italian flavours, flaky croissants, buttery danishes and rich cheesecakes temptingly line the cabinet, begging you to tuck in. Go on, we won’t judge.
