From that first sip of coffee to scraping the last bite off your plate, the perfect cafe experience feels like a pause—and is also the inspiration for Coomera’s new spot for Asian-leaning brunch dishes and playful drinks.

Pause Button Cafe is the new resident at the up-and-coming Coomera Collective, from the husband-and-wife duo behind Southport’s Humble Cafe. “When looking at the map, we noticed there are a lot of options from Southport down to Coolangatta, but not as many between Southport and Brisbane,” said co-owner Stanley Lam. “We felt Coomera has a lot of potential and is still growing quickly, so we wanted to create something special for the area.”

Here, the dishes are almost too pretty to eat, like the spiced honey chicken waffles served with yuzu-dressed salad or their signature octopus nduja scramble. “You don’t often see octopus on a breakfast menu as it is usually more common in wine bars or dinner settings,” said Lam. “The savoury and mildly spicy nduja pairs really well with soft scrambled eggs.”

Those who are looking for their usual coffee order can get their hands on Allpress brews, but if something a little different is what you’re after—you’re in the right place. Pause Button has a ‘Fun Bar’ inspired by trendy and visually striking drinks, from their take on a caffeinated pina colada in the Piña Co-Brew topped with house made pineapple cream cloud or the Violet Po-taro Matcha with house made violet cream cloud and matcha.

It’s impossible to miss the vibrant purple and yellow spot, which runs on a passion for connection and community. “Even though QR ordering can save labour, we still prefer running a cafe with real human interaction and connection with the community,” said Lam. “We still want people to feel looked after when they visit us, even through small conversations and moments during service.”
