Sogno Italiano

Pasta, pizza, and wine—the Italians certainly know how to live. If you’re a fan of  the divine cuisine that is Italian food (and let’s face it, who isn't?) then make a beeline to Sogno Italiano in Mermaid Waters.

Nestled in Markeri Street, Sogno Italiano is a homely Italian bistro that boasts all the signature homemade pasta and pizzas you would expect from a fine-dining Italian eatery. Translated to mean ‘Italian dream’, Sogno is exactly that. We’re dreaming of soft, pillowy gnocchi, cheese-covered pizzas and rich, tomato-y pastas… Headed up by two brothers who have made their mark at Gemelli, Gemellini and a plethora of other Italian joints on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane, Sogno slings up classic Italian fare with just a dash of contemporary flavours.

The extensive menu reflects the Gold Coast’s best seasonal produce while paying homage to the flavours of Italy. Our favourite is the build-your-own cheese board, where you can pile your board high with focaccia, grilled eggplant and zucchini, gorgonzola, burrata, salami and more deliciousness. Devour the oh-so-cheesy gnocchi formaggi which cheekily combines gorgonzola, fontina and parmesan or dig into the pappardelle ragu which is loaded with seven-hour slow cooked ossobuco and ribs with white wine.

As difficult as it might be, try to save room for dessert which showcases sweet Italian classics like tiramisu, panna cotta with berry coulis and honeycomb parfait. Hot tip—don’t bypass the tiramisu.
