Sun Devil isn’t your average coffee bar—it’s a full-blown Americana fever dream tucked inside the grungy-cool vintage store Strange Days in Coolangatta.
Founded by Arizona-bred Alex Boyce, this mid-Western caffeine haven started with a humble cold brew cart at the Currumbin markets before saddling up with a permanent home in early 2025. Now, it's serving up cold brews, nostalgic charm, and vintage gold, quickly affirming its place as a local go-to.
With moody, industrial interiors, vintage finds, and cowboy hats perched on every surface, the space blends Western grit with Gold Coast cool. It’s the kind of place you pop in for a caffeine fix and leave with the sudden urge to buy boots and a bag full of vintage finds. Not only is Sun Devil super dog-friendly but the sense of community here is strong; perch up on the hand-crafted coffee bar for a chat, and chances are, you’ll leave with new friends (or at least a great coffee).
The menu leans into housemade goodness—cold brew, sweet tea, and their signature cold foams are all crafted onsite. Expect an ever-evolving lineup of specialty drinks and creative combos that pack a flavour punch. The Devil’s Advocate is not just our personal favourite, it’s their most popular combo: sea salt and vanilla-infused cold brew finished with a cloud of pistachio cold foam.
Not a coffee drinker? The Little Miss Sunshine—a sweet iced tea topped with orange cold foam—or the half-lemonade, half-sweet tea Arnold Palmer are sunshine in a cup and pure American summer vibes. The whole fam is included with kid-friendly options like the Little Cowboy—a refreshing chocolate coconut water with orange cold foam that’s just as cool as it sounds. They’ve also got American-style batch brew or ‘diner coffee’ for the purists.
To eat, Sun Devil keeps things curated, teaming up with local microbakery Burnt Croissants for buttery croissants, Vegemite cheese scrolls, almond croissants and the occasional special like a tiramisu pastry made using their own house coffee. It's all about quality, not quantity—small batch, big flavour.
Alex and his team have certainly nailed the daytime crowd, and word on the street is they’ve got plans to extend into evening service soon. Until then, it’s coffee, croissants, and cowboy-core vibes every day of the week. If you’re after something a little different—part caffeine hit, part vintage goldmine—Sun Devil needs to be on your radar.
