Velvet Cafe & Lounge is the kind of place that makes you want to linger from morning until afternoon, watching the light shift across the room. Tucked away in the back streets of Miami, this chic new spot pairs warm hospitality with an artful, relaxed vibe that makes every visit feel like a treat.
From hospitality veterans Stefany Rincon and John Potter, whose genuine warmth sets the tone from the moment you walk in, Velvet strikes that perfect balance between sophistication and approachability. Every detail feels considered, from the burgundy velvet seating and deep red accents to the warm oak finishes that make the space feel instantly welcoming.
Even the menu has its own touch of indulgence, printed on velvet-textured paper that mirrors the restaurant’s name. Breakfast is where Velvet truly shines. The Spanish tortilla, made with crispy confit potatoes, chorizo, and caramelised onion, served with chimichurri-topped Bread Social sourdough, is an easy favourite.
The richness of the chorizo and sweetness of the onion play perfectly against the creamy omelette, finished with a cooling dash of crème fraîche. Then there’s the French toast fondue—bite-sized brioche with fresh fruit, melted dark chocolate, and pistachio dip—indulgent, balanced, and instantly memorable.
Every dish feels thoughtful, generous, and designed to delight without overdoing it, which might explain why Velvet is already winning over locals. The drinks list is just as impressive.
Filter coffee takes centre stage—smooth, perfectly crafted, and even better over ice on a hot Gold Coast day. Creative options like matcha clouds, smoothies, and juices like the refreshing apple, beetroot, lemon, ginger, and mint juice bring some playful variety.
Coffee lovers will also appreciate that the cocktail list has a section dedicated to coffee-based concoctions, each item a standout in its own right. Lunch isn’t an afterthought here, either. The Mediterranean-inspired dishes and show-stopping focaccias make it worth returning for round two.
Our favourite? The A La Vodka focaccia—crumbed marinated chicken and stracciatella smothered in a signature vodka sauce, tucked inside airy focaccia. Add a side of crispy brussels sprouts or hand-cut chips, and you’ve got yourself the perfect pairing for an Aperol spritz (or two).
Whether you’re seated inside the cosy lounge or outside beneath the umbrellas, Velvet Cafe & Lounge is a place made for savouring—the food, the drinks, and the company. With plans to open later into the evening, Velvet is shaping up to be Miami’s new go-to for brunch, lunch, coffee, and cocktails alike.
