Beaker Street Festival
Hobart | August 6-17
Hobart's premier festival of science, arts and culture is back! Beaker Street Festival has a packed lineup of events, from bat tours to science photography, a closer look at slime mould, Finnish sauna, mushroom workshops, a Palawan dining and cultural immersion, sensory wine tasting and more. The Antarctic Takeover is back at the Waterside Pavilion, as is the Roving Scientist Bar where you have a chance to nerd out 1-1 at Australia's oldest pub. Head into TMAG after dark, or up to kunanyi/Mount Wellington for Palawa astronomy. And it's not just in Hobart. There's fermentation classes in Launceston, Dr Karl in Burnie, eco-acoustics in Ross and a special musical astronomy dinner at Mount Gnomon. There's so much to discover this year.
Australian Antarctic Festival
Hobart | August 20-23

Hobart has close links to Antarctica, and here's where you see it in full swing! Events at the Australian Antarctic Festival range from foodie to educational, experiential and artistic, with plenty for kids to do, too. Hadley's will take you back in time to the age of Antarctic exploration and scientists like Sir Douglas Mawson and Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen (who stayed at that very hotel!), with trivia and storytelling at Mawson After Dark and even a murder mystery party. Foodies can follow the Aurora Flavours Trail, with Antarctic-inspired dishes and drinks across Hobart venues. Enjoy a curated tasting at Lark cellar door before hopping next door to the Mawson’s Hits museum. There's a special twilight market at Brooke Street Pier, an Antarctic movie weekend, a VR experience and a real sea voyage! It's fun for the whole family.

New Norfolk | September 5

The much-anticipated seedling sale is back! From 11am-2pm on Saturday, September 5, avid gardeners can head to New Norfolk and pick up some specialty sprouting seedlings for just $2 each. Planting a little bit of Agrarian Kitchen’s famous garden in your own backyard, how great is that? Bring your own box or tray to carry your new plants home, or you can buy one on the day. Bookings are essential and this one fills up fast? (They've also got spots left in some upcoming cooking classes, like puff pastry, pasta and sausage workshops).
Father's Day
Hobart and surrounds | September 6

It's time to celebrate the father figures in your life! Callington Mill House Of Whisky has a Father's Day Feast on the cards, with share-style dishes and a fun photobooth. Dad can get a free pint and gift when he dines at Irish Murphy's. Treat him to a char-grilled wilderness scotch fillet with Asian-inspired flavours at Mr Good Guy. Head out to Willie Smith's Apple Shed in Huon for a delicious brunch of share platters and cider. Or take him to Telegraph Hotel for a Sunday Roast and the footy. There's always a trip to Farm Gate Market and a picnic on kunanyi/Mt Wellington, for the outdoorsy dads. Let's make it special!
