The Verdict
Harboured on a quiet side street in Bentleigh, Freddie’s Pizza Kitchen is a hole-in-the-wall shop championing wood-fired thin-crust pizza. At the helm is owner and pizza maker, Milton, who fuses his Jamaican heritage with years spent honing skills in Tuscany and New York.
The menu is a love affair of Milton’s international dough stretching, featuring the classics (Margherita, Four Cheese and Napoli) along with more experimental options like their namesake ‘Freddie’ pizza with spicy pork & fennel sausage, caramelised onion, artichoke, fresh thyme and Scamorza mozzarella.
Coming in hot is the ‘Hells Kitchen’ dialled up hot Sopressa, pepperoni, semi-dried tomatoes, chilli, hot honey and fresh basil on a tomato base, as well as their ‘Jamaican’ number flaunting spicy jerk chicken, pineapple and jerk sauce.
While the crusts take centre stage, there’s a bunch of pasta and sides on the menu, like penne vodka with prosciutto, Antipasto with Freddie’s baked flatbread, and wood-fired Jamaican jerk BBQ wings.
Centred around the impressive wood-fire oven, guests can pull up a stool, catch the warm weather in the alfresco or drop in just to leave with a tower of Freddie’s green pizza boxes.
