Ostēr
The Verdict
In true Italian style, this new Richmond eatery is a no-fuss venue where traditional food and the art of hosting collide. The two owners, Nicola and Osvaldo, are both culinary veterans from Northern Italy so you know you’re getting genuine Italian food here.
As Ostēr's menu, you’re in safe hands. Nicola has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in London, Italy and Spain. The menu features fresh, local produce determined by the seasons and there are options for the veggie fans and meat eaters alike. Osvaldo can also match wines for you with his background as a sommelier at the Bulgari Hotel and Ritz Carlton Hotels no less.
Make sure you check out the cocktail list, it’s been designed by the world’s best bartender—no joke, this guy won 2018 Best Bartender in the World. If you want something higher up on the shelf though, then you can’t go past the house-made spirits.
The word Ostér means ‘to host’ in Italian, and that is exactly what Os and Nic intend to do. Along with their team, they will make you feel at home in their rustic, inviting osteria—think exposed bricks, polished concrete and ceramic plates for a Melbourne meets Milan feel. Book yourself a table here or let them host your next event.
Ostēr is open for dinner Wednesday through Saturday, as well as for lunch on Saturday and Sunday.
