The Verdict
For the last six months, Spring and Summer have been simmering a special-edition ramen every Wednesday. And—guess what—this week they're giving away hundreds of bowls for FREE. It's all thanks to their first birthday celebrations, which kick off on Tuesday 29th August. Right up until 3rd September, they'll be giving out a hundred free bowls of their silky-smooth ramen. The offer's available from 5:30pm to 7:30pm each night, but get in early to avoid the queues.
Sitting unassumingly on Barkley Street, Spring and Summer is the fresh-faced new kid who’s dishing up equally fresh food and drinks.
Asian fusion is the is the order of the day, but it really takes the popular cuisine to the next level. Headed by a chef who’s cut his teeth at Chin Chin, Hawker Hall, and Kong, he’s taken all that Lucas Group experience, picked out the best bits and turned them into a perfectly relaxed venue that is Spring and Summer.
The menu is a balance of finger lickin’ and fresh. You can expect to find everything from sashimi with Nam Jim and coconut cream (our top pick) , oysters with yuzu, and lotus root chips, right through to some of the most juicy chicken wings with bull killer mayo you’ll find in Melbourne.
Larger plates are slightly less surprising, but you’ll find some interesting takes on old favourites—the tempura soft shell crap with coconut curry sauce is our pick and the wagyu beef pad see ew is well worth an order too.
The cocktails are up there as a highlight and are clearly an element that Spring and Summer has paid particular attention to. Easy to drink cocktails that combine interesting flavours and a playful take on more traditional drinks. The Bangkok Mule is our go-to; coconut tequila, alcoholic ginger beer, and coriander.
