It’s never a slow news day in Auckland. This week we bring you all the new openings, new products, and new foodie events for you to take your pick. From another major announcement about the Commercial Bay precinct to Moet and Chandon flavoured lollies, we have all the news you need to know.

Moet Gummy Bears Now Exist 

Missing the nostalgia of pick’n’mix? Sugarcrave has just the treat. Gummy bears with a twist has hit shelves, in champagne and rosé flavours. The familiarly shaped sweet has taken on a new flavour, made with real Moet and Chandon Champagne and Hawkes Bay’s Indian Summer Rosé. The bears contain less than 0.1% alcohol but still carry the luxurious taste of the wines used. They are now available to order at Smith & Caughey’s and Herb and Spice Mill. 

Life’s S’more Fun With The Remarkable Chocolate Co. 

Just in time for the colder temperatures, The Remarkable Chocolate Co. release their Organic Dark Chocolate Bark S’mores Kit. The kit includes everything you need to create a gooey dessert in one cute package. Containing six soft marshmallows, vanilla gluten-free Kea cookies and toasted coconut and raspberry dark choc bark, choose to roast your marshmallows over an outdoor fire, or opt for the easier option and place it all in the microwave to melt together. The s’more kit is available online now. 

The Bee’s Knees Of The Taranaki 

After years of exporting Taranaki farmed honey to countries around the world, Egmont Honey are now stocking in New Zealand. The family business has been growing honey in the Taranaki region for six years, with 5% of profits donated to saving bees and hives. Their Raw Honey (undergoing as little processing as possible to make it as raw as possible) and Lemon ‘N Honey (a zesty creation combining the sourness of lemon with the sweetness of honey) are now available in Countdown Supermarkets nationwide. 

Whittaker’s Adds Two New Blocks

Two of New Zealand’s favourite dessert-makers are celebrating their partnership with limited edition Whittaker’s 100g blocks. After the success of Whittaker’s x Tip Top premium ice creams, Whittaker’s turns the delicious tastes of last summer into two only-while-stocks-last chocolate blocks. Salted maple cashew pieces in 33% cocoa creamy milk chocolate and salted caramel and pretzel pieces in 62% dark chocolate. The blocks are now available in supermarkets nationwide.

Commercial Bay Adds Two International Bars 

Announced this week, two new international cocktail bars are joining the stellar line-up of the ongoing Commercial Bay precinct. Ghost Donkey is a New York and Las Vegas tequila bar with more than 40 mezcals, tequilas, and margs, as well as a food menu from chef, Brad Farmerie. London’s Genuine Liquorette is an inclusive 1970’s American-inspired cocktail bar, famous for their “Cha-Chunker” contraption. Fitting mini alcohol bottles upside down into cans of soda and juice to create canned cocktails. The precinct is set to open in Spring, with Burger Burger, Hawker and Roll, and Simon and Lee already confirmed.  

Enrol In Beer 101 

If a cold brew of liquid gold is your drink of choice, listen up. Auckland’s Bottle Stop Beer Shop want to educate and elevate your knowledge on all things beer. They’ll teach you the difference between a pale ale, draught and lager, as well as the brewing process and what you’re actually tasting when you are downing a cold one. Plus, you’ll get to taste-test a whole lot of the stuff. The Beer 101 Class will take place on Wednesday, 3 April, with tickets available now. 

Forest At The Midnight Baker 

Join the team from The Midnight Baker and Forest Popups for a night of plant-based delicacies. The Dominion Road café is hosting a six-course dinner meal celebrating edible plants of all varieties and simultaneously challenging the expectations of where a meal and it’s ingredients should come from. Using as much locally and wildly grown produce as possible to create a plant-based degustation. The pop-up will run Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 March, with tickets available online now. 

Big Beautiful Burgers

La Cigale hosts a food truck event with a burger theme on Thursday, 4 April. Familiar Auckland food trucks Peaches Hot Chicken, Bacon Brother’s Food Truck, The Hungry Swine, Dixie Barbecue, Wise Boy Burgers and Double Dutch Fries will all be serving burgers on the night. Meanwhile, newcomers Jo-Bros Burgers will be welcomed to the La Cigale foodie scene on the night. The food trucks will park up at La Cigale French Market in Parnell kicking off at 5pm sharp. 

Huckleberry Hosts Easter Markets 

Easter has come early for Brown’s Bay. Huckleberry’s Organic Grocer hosts a Brown’s Bay Market Easter Day on Saturday, 23 March full of hot cross buns, chocolate eggs, fresh organic produce, and other delicious treats from Little Bird Unbakery, Ecofoods, Hunter Gatherer Gourmet, and Pana Chocolates among the lineup. There will also be competitions, activities, and raffles to keep you entertained on the day. 

New Opening: Snö By Dear Jervois

The team behind Dear Jervois has spread their wings, creating the hottest new Remuera eatery. The light and white Snö café offers a unique approach towards Scandinavian cuisine, with a few fan favourites brought over from Dear Jervois. The menu has an extensive brunch and drinks menu, from Swedish blueberry waffles with seasonal fruit and blue mascarpone to Scandanavian tostada with hot smoked salmon and lemon and dill cream, with a majority of the dishes being vegan and gluten-free.
