Auckland’s food scene is fast-paced and always changing, so to keep you in the know, we’ve had our eyes peeled for the newest openings, menus and products around the city. This week childhood favourites are back on the scene, metre-long pizzas need to be eaten and extravagant cocktails are launched.
Here’s a round-up of the foodie news you need to know this week.
Pineapple Lump Cocktails Are A Thing
The mini-golf bar that took the viaduct by storm has nailed it yet again with their latest creation and we could not be more excited. Introducing the Kiwi as Cocktail–white rum, pineapple rum, white chocolate liqueur, pineapple juice, chocolate sauce and milk topped with cream and Pineapple Lumps. That’s right, the genius creation by Holey Moley is a jazzed-up take on the Kiwi classic and household favourite lolly, pineapple lumps. Joining the Kiwi as Cocktail are three other newbies to the menu, the Salted Caramel Espresso Partini, The Kakato Bliss and the Strawberry Tee’s Cake. Enjoy one of these before, during or after a round of mini-golf to take your night to the next level.
CC's Return To Shelves
It's time to get seriously nostalgic because Bluebird's is bringing back an ultimate Kiwi favourite—CC's. A long-time staple in lunchboxes around the country, CC's launched in the 80s and were enjoyed by all New Zealanders until they were taken off the shelves in the mid-2000s. It is good news for all because on May 27 the iconic corn chips return in two flavours, Tasty Cheese and Flamegrilled BBQ. And yes, this is definitely a justified occasion to stock up on a few bags for yourself.
Bacon Brothers Joins Forces With Double Dutch Fries
A dream collab hits Auckland this weekend, Bacon Brothers Food Truck and Double Dutch Fries are joining forces to serve up an epic menu. Hosted in Double Dutch’s Takapuna location, Bacon Brothers is taking over the kitchen to whip up bacon butties, served with their signature banter and free hugs, and of course Double Dutch’s famous hand-cut fries. There are also new menu items to try and craft beer from Behemoth Brewing Company to wash it all down. Open from 11am-8.30pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday you can keep coming back all weekend long.
Made Simple's New Protein Bars
Tasti’s latest collaboration features a brand new product with a brand new ambassador. Made Simple’s range of protein bars contain vegan-friendly soybeans and hemp seeds, which are high in protein and nutrient-dense. They are also free from refined sugars, artificial flavours, colours and preservatives. In other words, they are good for you as well as delicious. And nutritionist, naturopath and ambassador Jess Blair can vouch for all of the above. These bars hit the mark with the exciting flavours, cacao brownie, caramel and sea salt and peanut butter and berry, all available in stores now.
The Healthiest Tonics Launch
Greenleaf Organics has released a new range of drinks to complement its growing health and wellness product offering. The Switchel tonics celebrate organic and natural fundamentals with five refreshing flavours available—turmeric, beetroot, pineapple, lemon and grapefruit. The range is inspired by the summertime Caribbean drink Switchel, which the Greenleaf Organics team used as a starting point to then create the apple cider vinegar-based beverage. The raw, prebiotic health drink is good for gut health, overall wellness and tastes delicious. The range is available online and at selected stockists nationwide.
Help Save The Turtles With A Keep Cup
World Turtle Day is this week and Kelly Tarlton's is doing their bit to raise money for the many critically endangered turtle species. More than a thousand marine turtles have called the aquarium home, the majority of which were rescued, rehabilitated and released. In order to raise money to protect turtles through research, campaigns and education, they have launched a limited edition keep cup. $5 from every keep cup sold will go directly towards the cause and can be purchased online and in the Kelly Tarlton's gift shop.
Try Finish A Metre Long Pizza
Metre-long pizzas? Yes. Please. The legends at Pizza Presto have opened their first physical location in the heart of the city after previously only operating online. You can now find the pizzeria on Commerce Street, serving up their out of this world pizzas from 7am. The specially made dough is made of only four ingredients—flour, yeast, salt and olive oil. The thick and crusty yet fluffy and light bases are topped with seasonally changing toppings, ranging from classic combos to more creative options. Pick up a single slice or go all out with the crew and commit to the metre-long option because the more the better when it comes to pizza right?
