Whether you’re a 90's baby who watched the high school drama play out live on TV or a newbie who has fallen in love with the Upper East Side via Netflix, Gossip Girl fans assemble because the highly anticipated reboot is nearly here.
That’s right, a whole 13 years after the OG series dropped, HBO Max, Warner Media's new streaming service, has ordered 10 episodes of "a reimagined version" of the series—and if the first-look trailer is anything to go by, this reboot is going to be absolutely epic.
What’s The Gossip Girl Reboot About?
In the reboot we’ll find ourselves swept up in the lives of a new set of privileged New York teens. The plot goes like this: "eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years."
OG showrunner and series writer Joshua Safran is involved in the reboot as well as show creator Josh Schwartz, which means we can expect all of the sassy goodness and juicy drama we came to know and love in the original.
Who Is Cast In The Gossip Girl Reboot?
While Kristen Bell (the voice of Gossip Girl) is currently the only original cast member linked to the sequel, Safran assured fans the new cast would be much more diverse this time around with more queer characters.
The official Gossip Girl Instagram account revealed portraits of the nine new stars with one word teasers about each of them—like innocence, influence, freedom and privilege. Check them all out here.
Some of the fresh-faced newbies include skateboard star and model Evan Mock who will play Akeno “Aki” Menzies AKA ‘innocence’. And Savannah Smith, currently studying acting at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, who will play Monet de Haan, AKA ‘power’.
