Drift Away At La Marée, The Viaduct’s Stunning New Waterfront Restaurant With A French Twist

By Lauren Sanderson

Seafood lovers listen up! A boujee new seafood-inspired restaurant has opened at the new-look Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour Hotel and we can’t contain our excitement. La Marée, which translates to ‘the tides' in French, has opened its doors to share the best of New Zealand seafood and produce with a French culinary twist.

The beautiful restaurant sits overlooking Waitemata Harbour and reflects timeless French luxury in a clean, contemporary space.

Michelin-starred Chef Marc de Passorio and Kiwi MasterChef winner Tim Read have joined forces to rock the boat (see what we did there) on the New Zealand foodie scene, bringing you what can only be described as an experience très magnificent. Now new chef Marty Kindleysides has taken up the mantle.

Some of the signature dishes featured on the menu are Bouillabaisse a la Marseillaise, a saffron-tinted shellfish stew recipe by Chef Marc's grandmother; Crayfish Flambé with Thomson Whiskey and Barley Miso Risotto; Scallops grilled on lava stone and smoked with balsamic, beetroot, pomegranate, lemon caviar, horopito; and Lobster bisque with Espelette pepper, lobster ravioli, coriander and deer milk.

Sounds divine, right? Pair that with an elite waterside location in the Viaduct and an exquisite wine menu, La Marée is perfect for your next rendezvous.

All that’s left to be said is, bon appétit.
