It’s the most iconic landmark in Auckland, the one that you look towards to get your bearings, the one that makes our landscape uniquely…well…us. Yep, we’re talking about the Sky Tower. And, it’s their birthday but YOU’RE invited to the party!
Can you believe that it’s a whopping 20 years since this most famous of attractions opened in the City of Sails? Since then, this 328-metre tall beauty has seen our sky lit up in an array of colours, reflecting the events and the moods of our nation. From Mother’s Day to Matariki, Poppy Week to princesses, Christmas to Christchurch quakes, the Sky Tower has lit for more than 100 reasons in the past 20 years.
More than colours and lights, it’s also home to one of the city’s best fine dining restaurants—yep, we’re talking The Sugar Club. It also has our only rotating restaurant, Orbit and the Sky Café. And, of course, who could miss watching those brave enough to make the leap and bungy jump off it? Or even those bright orange outfits of people who walk the ledge. Maybe, you’ve done it yourself!
In celebration of our favourite landmark’s birthday, the Sky Tower is going all out to encourage locals to join the fun.
Firstly, grab proof of your address and head there tomorrow because this is your chance to explore the icon for free. Yep, for FREE! There will be balloon twisters and face painters to really add to the par-tay. And, if you miss out, don't (fully) despair as they're also offering a cheapo $20 ticket for an adult and child from the August 4 until the end of the month.
If you’re not brave enough to actually travel up that lift, then stay at its base where, from August 3 – 5, from 6pm until 9pm, you’ll have the opportunity to choose the colour of the Sky Tower! There are eight colour choices, all made from a touch screen.
Whether it’s a special birthday, a charity, or just your favourite colour, you may be able to say you lit up the entire city!
Make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and get lit at the Sky Tower this week! HB, Sky Tower!
