Margo’s Is The Hot New Mexican Joint You Need To Check Out In Queenstown

Raise your salt-rimmed glasses, the hottest new Mexican joint has just opened up in New Zealand’s staycation hot-spot, Queenstown.

Created by the hospitality masterminds behind Queenstown’s Little Blackwood, and the original Mr Toms in Ponsonby, the highly anticipated Margo’s is set to become the next Queenstown dining institution and we can see why.

Indianapolis-born head-chef, Matt Tobin has crafted a menu that draws inspiration from the many different flavours of Mexico… with a contemporary twist, and believe us when we say it’s next level!

The approachable, shared-style menu is full of flavour from the smashed avocado guacamole, coconut shrimp and coca cola BBQ pork ribs to the sizzlin’ fajitas and cinnamon tossed churros with hot chocolate and dulce de leche…um, yes please!

But, why stop there? There’s also a taco menu with everything from buttermilk fried chicken to jackfruit and a full vegan menu too. And if all that is all just too much choice, you can opt for the “Trust El Jefe” (pronounced “hefe”) menu and the boss with sort you out.

Wash it all down with your tipple of choice…the cocktail list boasts all your classics, as well as an extensive list of mezcal and tequila—did someone say margaritas? And between 5-6pm frozen margs are $14—we’ll start with two please, and thank you.

And, if you have a couple more margs than anticipated and want to keep the night going, head on upstairs for a round of pool. Yes, that’s correct this restaurant has a pool table up top—is there anything owner trio, James Ace, Bert Haines and Brad Iles haven’t thought of?

With epic street art throughout by local artist @Deow1, great food and an even better atmosphere, the vibrancy of Margo’s makes every day a celebration.

You’ll find this little hidden gem tucked away on Honey Lane above late night après ski spot, Rhino’s Ski Shack.
