We might only be a couple of months into the new year but this summer is shaping up to be a corker. Hot on the heels of a pop-up gin garden in town comes the announcement of a new beach festival that’s coming to everyone’s favourite north shore beach, Takapuna.
If your idea of a summer afternoon well spent involves lazing beachside with a cold one in hand (honestly, same) then this festival is sure to be right up your alley.
Waterbourne is a three-week extravaganza and will be New Zealand’s biggest beach festival and comes as part of Auckland Unlimited’s epic Summernova programme.
A 300-person rooftop bar will be available throughout the festival and will grant you front row access to 11 music events being held at Waterbourne, with more than 30 acts performing. There will also be four ticketed music nights and we’re telling you now, the VIP rooftop will be the ONLY place to be to catch all the action as you’ll be just metres from the stage.
With each week on the rooftop offering a different menu you’ll be able to snack on American food from February 28 to March 7, Kai Moana (seafood) from March 8 to 14 and Italian food will round out the series from March 15 to 21.
If you’re after something sweet, Kapiti have a surprise in store with an art meets nature meets ice cream sensory experience at the Long White Rooftop Bar. Wash it all down with the finest booze known to man including Brancott Estate Wines and GH Mumm Champagne.
Over the three-week festival there’ll be plenty going on besides living your best life on the rooftop, including movie nights, sandcastle competitions, fun runs and even a beach clean up. If getting out on the water is more your jam there’ll be the Waterbourne Windsurfing and Windfoiling championships, a SUP competition, and even the Tip Top Paddle Ninja games where you’ll be invited to compete a gnarly obstacle course for your chance to win three months’ worth of ice cream. A worthy incentive if ever we’ve heard one. Keen? Find out all about the festival right here.
