We all know COVID has had a huge impact on the arts, so it just warms our cockles to see shows like multi-award-winning show The Lion King and hit-musical The Jersey Boys on the stage this year. Can it get much better?
Oh yes, it can because joining the elite line-up is the one and only Wicked. Dratted COVID may have postponed its September plans but the longest-running musical on Broadway will now be flying into SkyCity Theatre for a limited season in February 2022. Take a trip along the yellow brick road and prepare to be amazed by an all Kiwi cast as they transport you to Emerald City and back.
North Shore Music Theatre, who previously staged Hairspray at the SkyCity Theatre in 2014, will be returning with a cast of 40 to deliver a show-stopping performance of the much-loved classic.
Wicked tells the story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two girls who first meet as sorcery students at Shiz University: the blonde and very popular Glinda and a misunderstood green girl named Elphaba.
Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda—The Good, and Elphaba—the Wicked Witch of the West. Watch as their untold story unfolds.
So, if you’re after something entirely ‘wicked’ (see what we did there) then snag your tickets here, existing tickets for the September run can be refunded or moved to the new date range. But be quick, they’re sure to sell out faster than you can sing ‘defying gravity.’
