The Verdict

Tucked away down Federal Street, you’ll stumble upon 1947 Eatery. The bar-slash-eatery serves modern Indian cuisine alongside innovative cocktails. Yep, you can have a martini with your curry!

Founded by three friends with a passion for food, the eatery showcases authentic yet contemporary Indian cuisine. Graze on bar snacks such as street-style samosa chat, spiced corn and lollipop fried chicken. We can’t go past the curry chips—aka fries topped with butter chicken sauce, cheese and mayo. This dish is literally a dream come true! There are also heartier dishes such as vege machurian, tandoori chicken, bhaaji and curry faves like palak paneer and malai kofta.

The drinks are equally impressive with a bespoke cocktail menu to impress. Sip on “elixir of immortality” with whiskey, butterscotch and winter spices or go for “cold blood” with ginger vodka, beetroot puree, cardamom and flamed cherries. For a real showstopper, the “longest island iced tea” is vibrant blue (thanks to the blue curacao) and served in arguably the world’s tallest glass. There is also an extensive wine list, craft beers, mocktails and a comforting masala chai.

Yep, there’s a lot to love about 1947 Eatery. It looks like you’ve got a new inner-city drinking (and eating) hole!
