So maybe you’ve cycled before. And maybe you’ve hit a dance floor in da club (or should we say your mate’s house party?). But have you experienced both at the same time? If you were a Westward-goer or have hit the likes of Soul Cycle, Psycle or Euphoria overseas, that’ll be a Hell Yes. If not, let me catch you up to speed.

Rhythm cycling is like a spin class, except with choreography set to the beat of the music—it’s a vibe, in every meaning of the word.

At the end of 2024 Westward announced it wouldn’t be reopening which left avid rhythm cyclers bereft. But as of May 2025 the space has reopened, taken over by former instructors Annika and former rider Briony, and they’ve brought the studio into its Cadence era.

Where predecessor Westward was a full-body cardio dance party on a bike, Cadence is going deeper with options to lean into heavier classes (like strength), or into the mind-body connective space (with candlelit cyc-ology). Cadence 35, 45 and 60 are the signature classes, low impact is slower-paced and basics45 is a monthly class especially for beginners. With all this on offer, you can choose your own… cadence (sorry not sorry), with a class to complement whatever’s happening for you that week.

And to ensure Cadence becomes your regular, they’ve sorted you out with everything you need: towels, body products, showers, changing spaces, even tampons. Specialty cycle shoes are provided too, at no extra cost. These bad boys clip straight onto the pedals and help you engage your leg muscles and pedal more efficiently. You’ll feel secure and ready to dance.

The studio itself is dark, to banish any self-conscious feelings and encourage moments of introspection (as well as party vibes) throughout the class. You’ll find yourself concentrating on your breath, moving to the beat and entering a somewhat meditative state.

While no two classes are the same (especially given the myriad of class styles), expect to spin like crazy, moving your entire body. The instructor will guide you through a series of movements at high-intensity intervals as you adjust the resistance of your bike. They also incorporate dumbbell exercises, crunches and push ups on the handlebars. And that might sound intense (and it can be) but you're welcome to dial it back whenever you need.

Cadence isn't currently on Classpass, for now wanting to focus on building those sweet, sweet community vibes. Snag a membership or concession card on their website and get ready to ride.
