The Verdict

A food store and wine lounge rolled into one, Dida’s on Jervois Road is an Auckland institution. Meaning ‘Grandfather’ in Croatian, Dida’s is a tribute to Jak Jakicevich, whose grandfather pioneered Glengarry Wines in 1940. Open for breakfast and lunch, you’ll find Spanish scrambled eggs, delicious salads and plenty of cabinet food to choose from. Later in the day, Dida’s Wine Lounge & Tapas Bar serves all sorts of nibbly bits (think cheese croquettes and venison meatballs) alongside an impressive list of wines.

Portside

When it comes to enjoying simple pleasures, those of the food and/or drink variety rank pretty highly for us Urban Listers. A good coffee. A perfectly baked pastry. Pretty cocktails at a rooftop bar. Which brings us to Portside, the latest addition to a growing number of gravity-defying spots popping up around the city.
